I’m looking to learn more about Guardian Angels. What kind of Church teaching is there on the matter? Also, if anyone has any recommendations for books, I would love to hear them.

I have the book “Angels Among Us” by Ron Rhodes available here
ronrhodes.org/angels_among_us.htm

and I would recommend it to anyone. It’s not particularly about guardian angels, but goes into the hierarchy of angels. It debunks the popular “angelology” fad and teaches about real angels, based on scripture. Definitely worth a read.

See also…

Catechism paragraphs 328-337.

Also Scripture:*Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Acts 12:14-15 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!” *“You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.

Matthew 18:10 "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?*Last month I did a talk on Angels that covers some of this and some of St. Thomas Aquinas’ (the “Angelic Doctor” himself!) teaching on angels, the choirs, etc… Link here. :o

Some time ago I was surprised to learn that Guardian Angels is not a defined Church teaching, as The Catholic Encyclopedia states:
That every individual soul has a guardian angel has never been defined by the Church, and is, consequently, not an article of faith; but it is the “mind of the Church”, as St. Jerome expressed it: “how great the dignity of the soul, since each one has from his birth an angel commissioned to guard it.” (Comm. in Matt., xviii, lib. II).
I see that while the CCC states a belief in Guardian Angels they do not quote any official Church document on the subject.

On the other hand, the continuous belief of the members of the Church in this over most/all of the Church’s history is a strong evidence for its truth. It derives from Jesus’ statement regarding the children.
10* "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. *
Matthew 18:10

Does Celestial Hierarchy by Pseudo-Dionysius, perhaps the greatest work on angelology, have anything regarding guardian angels?
