This is a most unfortunate circumstance for you, Renton. It is truly sad that your ‘catholic’ friends are so poorly catechized that they mislead you to such an extent.
Renton, please INVITE your catholic friends to join you in the RCIA this year. They need to apporach their faith as mature adults and learn what it is to be an active, informed, participating Catholic Christian!
One wonders why a plurality of catholics [your posts imply more than one] would be that uninformed about the faith.
Your complaint about the 'Church" not telling you what you needed to do seems reasonable upon its face. However, when someone wants to join something, they usually make contact and ask questions…in matters of faith and spirituality the average parish will let the new parishioner [catholic or non - catholic] initiate the discussions.
Catholics tend to be less ‘actively’ evangelical…we don’t send out the door to door missionaries, visiting ‘recruiters’.
Catholic parish bulletins, newspapers, radio and TV programs and various books all discuss conversion and initiation regularly. It seems hard to imagine that you [and or any of your catholic associates could stay clueless] and this has to be an ***anomally! ***
I hope and pray that this parish will see the harm done to you Renton and work diligently to see that it does not happen again. As I noted above, the first step might be to invite your friends to join you at RCIA…
I have worked with RCIA for over a decade…it won’t hurt them…
And I am curious Renton…you have said what they told you when you ‘joined’ the church…what do they say now about their lack of knowledge?
