What exactly is the Churchs’ position on evolution? And are there any good books discussing the issue (in a fashion that one not fully aquinted with all of evolution could understand)? I know that this is (or at least was) a big issue and I would like to be able to adress it if it comes up. Thank you and God bless.

NO NO NO NO NO…MUST…NOT…REPLY…

MUST…NOT…REPLY…AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 😃

This 2004 document explains it in the most sophisticated terms yet

Cardinal Ratzinger’s Commentary on Genesis from 1986 (repub 1995)

Catholic Answers has a good summary on what is required…also Jimmy Akin article from Jan 2004 This Rock

AND Cardinal Schonborn has a brand new article defending his position on “design” and reason in First Things (January 2006)

The Designs of Science by Cardinal Christoph Schonborn which is a reply to

The Design of Evolution by a Catholic physicist

The latest and greatest on the topic that “would not leave” 👍

For a book by evangelical scientists, Perspectives on an Evolving Creation is the best I’ve seen. Comprehensive and accurate scientifically, theologically and philosophically, and I think compatible with Catholic faith.

Pope Pius the XII settled it for Catholics when he wrote that we are free to believe in various forms of evolution, BUT, we are not free to believe any form of evolution which states that human beings descend from more than one pair of fully human parents (i.e., Adam and Eve). In other words, no polygenism for mankind.
