Ciborium On Altar

When it comes time to distribute communion and they know they are going to need additional consecrated host the priest or deacon take the ciborium out of the tabernakle so they both have one, then they distribute. It’s been suggested that the sacristin,(don’t know if spelled right) when setting up before Mass go ahead and take the ciborium out of the tabernakle (which has consecrated host in it) and place it on the altar during Mass so the priest or deacon don’t have to do it right before distributing it. I should add the tabernakle is about 10 feet behind the altar. This dosen’t sound right. We’d have Jesus sitting on the altar during the whole Mass. Anything that says this shouldn’t be done.

No Consecrated Hosts in a ciborium should never be outside of the Tabernacle, especially on the altar when Mass begins. They should only be taken out of the Tabernacle if needed during the distribution of Holy Communion. Nothing ahould be on the altar during the Liturgy of the Word.
