I was wondering, what is the proper way for a priest to tie his cincture. I see many at Mass with one tassel hanging down on his right and left side with two loops for each end of his stole. How does a priest tie this? Are there any illustrated instructions?

This is one way to tie it.

This method is commonly used by deacons and acolytes, although many transitional deacons use the Roman knot, which is used by priests and bishops to secure the ends of their stole. To make it, follow the instructions above, but place the knot in the middle at the navel. Then…

Take one of the loose ends about 18" from where it comes out of the knot. Pass a loop of it under the tightened cincture at your left side. Insert the tassel through this loop and pull it completely through. Tighten the new knot after adjusting the length of the cincture between this new knot and the center knot to make a stole-sized loop. The tassel should now be hanging at your left side. Repeat for the right side.
