City’s First African-American Priest May Become Saint

Although many in Chicago have known of Father Tolton for years,
now the effort is underway to open his cause for Sainthood.

As CBS 2′s Roseanne Tellez reports, Chicago’s highest ranking black Catholic, Bishop Rev. Joseph Perry, is leading the effort to canonize Tolton.

I read this artical on Wikipedia about him. Assuming that the artical is correct, he apparently met with all kinds of persecution because of the color of his skin. Apparently, they wouldn’t accept him into any semenary here in America, so he had to go all the way to Rome to study and be ordained.

It’s never a bad idea to pray for someone being considered for sainthood, or to ask them to pray for you. I hope that the Church finds that he led a virtuous life, so that his canonization process can begin.
