If a catholic couple was married in Las Vegas 25 years ago and never had their marriage convalidated in the Catholic Church, are they “living in sin”?
Yes. For a baptized Catholic (who is required to marry in the Church) a civil marriage is not valid. If a catholic couple was married in Las Vegas 25 years ago and never had their marriage convalidated in the Catholic Church, are they “living in sin”?
From what you state they are not married in the eyes of the Church. Unless they repented, confessed and stopped living as husband and wife they are probably living in a state of sin. The standard suggestion would be to talk to a priest and to regularize the situation. If it were the first marriage for both of them it should be quite simple and fast.If a catholic couple was married in Las Vegas 25 years ago and never had their marriage convalidated in the Catholic Church, are they “living in sin”?
Had they formally left the Church when they married? If so, their marriage might be valid. If not, well, probably not.If a catholic couple was married in Las Vegas 25 years ago and never had their marriage convalidated in the Catholic Church, are they “living in sin”?
