I blindly follow Jesus because I have enough reason to understand that He is God.
I blindly follow God because He is all good and all knowning.
I blindly follow His Church, because Jesus authorized and commissioned His Church to teach and preach His words.

Since everything the Church teaches is the teaching of Jesus, God Himself, or co-extensive with those teachings, then
I blindly follow His Church.

In 2000 years the Church has never taught error or anything evil, inspite of some evil and corrupt leaders. There is no other organization, that can match this record.

I could freely reject the Church, who teaches only the world of God, and thus reject God, and thus choose what is evil. Thus I have a free will.

But, I choose to blindly follow God, who teaches through His infallible Church.

Why would anyone want to blindly follow what is evil by rejecting His Church?

If a Catholic says that He or She will follow the Church no matter what it teaches, then YES they are Blindly following the Church.
And what if a Christian says that he/she will follow the bible no matter what it teaches? Are they blindly following the bible?

I never ceased to be amazed at how many Protestants sound just like atheists when they argue against the Church. It is the most astonishing thing.

I dont think most Catholics blindly follow anything. From what I can see if 5% were real Christians I would be surprised.

Peter Kreeft says as much when describing his class at BC.

Most will tell you that there good outweighs their bad, that’s how they hope to get to heaven.

I do think the remaining 5% will follow whatever the pope says.

There is a claim out there by NCC that states that Catholics (practicing Catholics not the Caferia Catholics) blindly follow the Church without question kinda like a robot.

If this were true, it would mean I have no free will. Any thoughts on this?
I’m sorry, Manny, but I do not understand the question. Why would freely choosing to follow the teachings of the Holy Mother Church indicate anything but the proper use of free will?

In Him and Him Only
The Church is Christ presents here on earth.
Christ=Catholic Church.

With this information, maybe you should ask yourself “Do you follow Christ and his Church?”

You either “do” or “your don’t” or your trying to do the best with your limited abilities.

Which is it?

 Ho hum, more ignorant speculation based on bigoted presupposition and an uncanny ability to read billions of hearts and minds…

Really? 🙂 And what empitical data do you base that on?

A direct quote – in context – would be nice.

 Again, what empirical data do you base that on?

It gets so tedious pointing out that subjective, judgmental opinion is not the same as facts, but – oh well! Someone’s got to do it!

Wake me up for the next one…

Jesus and His Church cannot be separated.
In addition to fix’s remarks.

Jesus is the Bridegroom of the Church and the Church is His Bride. They are One, they cannot be separated. Unless you make yourself a judge and divorce Jesus and His Church like what Martin Luther did when he break with Rome.

I believe it is in his book “Born Again Catholic”. He talks about 95% of his class having no idea of how to get to heaven.

My experience also from attempting to reconcile my born again experience with the Living Savior and the Catholic church I grew up in.

No priest or lay member appeard to be very interested in my conversion to God, and the 4 people who attended a Catholic Charismatic bible study out of a 5,000 church membership were very nice but theologically more baptist than Catholic.

:twocents:

I kind of thought that might be what it was.

Polls taken in class showing that most of those present are poorly catechized is a lot different than quoting Kreeft as saying:

You have my sympathy for your poor catechesis and bad personal experience, but you need to realize that your limited personal experience does not qualify you to make sweeping statements like those above.

I will be the first to bemoan the fact that many Catholics are pathetically catechised (especially those raised in the 70’s and 80’s), but that is a lot different than making the blanket condemnation as you did that “From what I can see if 5% were real Christians I would be surprised.”

I spent 2 years studying the Catechism and reading the attendant Bible references before realizing that I needed to join the Church that Christ instituted and follow the appointed leader of His Church. My eyes are wide open as I follow Christ and the Church.🙂

I am a cradle Catholic but as I finished my years in a ‘Catholic’ school where we no longer attended Mass at school and the nuns abandoned more than their habits, I became a liberal feminist and rejected many of the Church’s teachings. Many. That did not lead to happiness.

But God is patient and after a number of years of me trying out all sorts of other specious ‘spiritualities’, He sent Our Lady to round me up.

I had to relearn my faith. I read the Bible and Catechism and voraciously all the books on the faith I could get my hands on. I loved biographies of saints and I discovered that they were OBEDIENT to all the teachings of the Church. To be holy and to seek to be a saint myself (go for the gusto), then I needed to adhere to the teachings too. And I try my best.

I had 19 years between confessions but all that has changed now.
I am a daily communicant and a catechist, among other things.

We live in a spiritually lackluster place. There is almost NO catechesis and no teaching homilies and no good preaching to mention. The protestant pastors that my friends tell me about have more to say on Christianity and this is a sad situation. The priests like their vacations, many of them, and their new cars and new home. They do not visit the sick and it is difficult to een get one to the dying. So it is not a surprise when a hungry soul that hears the Name of Jesus in the protestant church begins to go there because they do not know the Gift of God in the Eucharist; no one has told them.

Ave Maria!

answer: Catholics don’t blindly follow the Church.

I checked the Catechism, and it says we don’t blindly follow the Church.

So that proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt!!! 😉
