  2. i try not to sent back an insult but when i talk to the person my voice is sharp and cold. and im not really friendly after that. even if i try to forget the insult.
ok i know you guys are going to say chill it, kid but isnt there a christian way to respond to these people? thanks!

I think it is normal to be upset if someone insults your family. Find some techniques that help you calm down though. Deep breaths always worked well for me.
I don’t think I have an answer for you because ever situation is different but here are a couple of idea/suggestions that I hope help.
  1. Pray. That is always a good idea. Pray for strength, courage, etc.
  2. Turn the other cheek
  3. This one comes from a song but has helped me a great deal in many situations. “Let God deal with the things they do because hats in your heart will consume you too.” I found a lot of peace in letting go and letting God handle this type of thing
  4. Forgive even if its hard or you can’t really "feel it " none of us are perfect and unfortunate you are catching the tough end of this deal.

My confessor said once to make it a point to pray for them, particularly that God will be merciful to them. That does help.

We’re commanded to love one another. We don’t have to like each other. There is a big difference. The point here is not to make yourself feel a feeling or to trust someone who is not worthy of trust, but to let go of a desire for vengeance and to let go of emotional investment in the wrongdoing. One thing that helps me when I need to let go of a grudge is to realize that they’re probably sleeping fine and not thinking a thing of it. Why should I go crazy, and they’re not even thinking about it? Or if they said it to drive me crazy, if they’re sitting home hoping they offended me, why should I give them what they’re after? Why be such an easy target? Should they be able to simply toss off a comment and the change the course of my life for an hour or a day or a week or six months?

It does help to make it a habit to be particularly patient, kind, and polite to people you don’t like. It kind of gets to be a habit. It’s not the same as letting go, but it suits until you do.

The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
James 3:6

You control yourself well, when you don’t insult back.

I have a friend, who often just out of ease uses phrases, which were popular in the 70s and 80s, the starting time of liberalism and “do, whatever feels good”. He is a nice man, but when it comes to free talk, he is as bad as a pagan. God forgive him.

These people often seem still hypnotized by the influence of fashion and media seen on TV. That makes a person say things without even knowing, what he or she says, not being aware of the damage they do with their tongue.

Me personally I am silent in most cases, but angry inside. Often I wish to express myself in a gentle way, but can’t, out of fear to show sympathy with what just happened out of his mouth.

As a prayerful person, you will find many occasions to correct the one that made insults, often even in the same conversation. Often we should not let them feel our anger instantly. This anger is a holy anger, but we even have to control holy anger.

The Holy Ghost will tell us when it is time to speak and what to speak, but we therefore must be in constant prayer, at all times fearful of offending God.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, now and forever. Amen

Is it wrong to fight back?
Maybe it is better than your sharp and cold voice.
Catholics are forced to forgive but not to forget…

This is called being defensive.

Lots of parents of large families here on the forum have encountered the same thing. Most of them respond with light humor, which is rather like judo in that it takes the other person off-balance and defuses the situation.

Example:

Stranger looks at large family, says, “Do you know where babies come from?”

Parent of large family smiles and responds, “Yes, as a matter of fact, and we’re good at it!”

😃

This takes confidence, which usually comes with age. Young people can sometimes pull it off, depending upon their individual personality. If you are not one of those people, then say a prayer and walk away from the insult, without letting it remove your peace of mind.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

(That is a partial prayer that comes in handy at times like that)

Example:

Stranger looks at large family, says, “Do you know where babies come from?”

Parent of large family smiles and responds, “Yes, as a matter of fact, and we’re good at it!”
I have 6 six kids and use a variation of this frequently.
