Hello,

Since I wear the scapular, as a part of the stipulated conditions, I say the “Prime” and the “Compline” office of the Blessed Virgin Mary on a daily basis which I had obtained from a website in the form of a PDF…

However, recently I discovered a PDF format of a book containing the Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sexta, None and Compline with all the stipulated antiphons w.r.t. the liturgucal season, along with the Office of the Dead… Unfortunately, the print edition will not be made available in my country…😞

I went through the rules at the start of the book but seek clarity… Could someone who prays it regularly, please help me out by explaining the rules in a more simple, elucid manner…?

[P.S.

I’ll be providing the URL : The Little office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, comformable to the recent pontifical decrees and the Office of the dead in Latin and English : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

It’s a PDF of a 1915 edition by Benziger Brothers]

For the Divine Office in general: the hour of “Prime” has been abolished. Used to be said with Lauds. Matins used to be recited at 4 AM. Now it has been renamed “Office of Readings” and can be recited any time between Lauds and Compline.

A revised version of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin approved by the Holy See is published by Catholic Book Publishing Corporation. ISBN-10: 0899424503 ISBN-13: 978-0899424507

Previous Offices have been abolished and can be prayed privately out of devotion, but it will be difficult to digest the rules. The FSSP puts out a version of it with very simple rules to follow, but a very odd English translation next to the Latin.

Also, there are no “stipulated conditions” for the Scapular, other than being invested in it by any priest (once reserved to Carmelite priests) with the proper Rite (long or short version). There is something about a Sabbatine privilege having some requirements, but the Holy See never confirmed it and in any case the Little Office is centuries older than the Scapular of the B.V.M. of Mount Carmel.

You’re not required to say any sort of prayers when you wear the Brown Scapular. The only requirement is that you be initially invested in it by a priest. I was invested some months ago. There is a lot of misinformation about the Scapular on the web.
