The 1960’s:
Blowin’ in the WInd - Bob Dylan

The 1970’s
The Long and WInding Road - The Beatles

The 1980’s
We Built This City - Starship

60’s: Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf

70’s:* Stairway to Heaven -* Led Zeppelin

80’s: Something About You - Level 42

Please take this in the friendly, humorous way it is intended:

:rotfl: I just could not stop laughing. Surely this cannot be the song to look at that the 1980’s gave us.

Well, I don’t know if these are necessarily the BEST songs, maybe some of the most popular songs at least but when I think of music during each of these decades, I think of:

60’s- Hey Jude, Born To Be Wild, My Girl, Mustang Sally
70’s- Stairway To Heaven, American Pie, Joy To The World,
Dust In The Wind
80’s- Open Arms, Jessie’s Girl, Eye of The Tiger, Endless Love
Not exactly what you asked for but I couldn’t pick just one:D

I really couldn’t think of any song that was even WORTHY of a best song of the 1980’s…they all seemed to sound the same to me!

For me it’s the following:

1960’s: ‘Proud Mary’ (Creedence Clearwater Revival)

1970’s: ‘Tea for the Tillerman’ (Cat Stevens)

1980’s: Was there any good music in the '80’s?!

The Police - Every Breath You Take, Wrapped Around Your Finger.

The Police - Every Breath You Take,
Oh yes - the classic stalker song. I liked it, but always gave me the creeps when really listening to the words.

60’s anything from Electric Ladyland

70’s anything from The Allman Brothers

80’s There was music in the 80’s???

Edit:
My daughter says there was music in the 80’s. And it was better than the garbage from the 90’s.

For the '60s at least, for me, the defining song is
“AQUARIUS”, the opening number of the rock musical HAIR.

Jaypeeto3

60s -
anything from Simon and Garfunkel

70s -
In the Ghetto - Elvis Presley
Miracles - Jefferson Starship

80s -
Something About You (2nd vote for that one!) - Level 42
Alive and Kicking - Simple Minds
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel

Obviously, being born in the 60s, my memory is much better in the 80s than in the previous two decades…

How about some “Chicago”…ala “25 Or 6 To 4” or…pssssstttttttt…come here…“Neil Diamond”??
Kathy

What about John Lennon singing with the Beatles “Let it be”?

Remember the song "Spirit in the Sky"? When was that? 60’s, 70’s?
Love that one…

When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that’s the best
When they lay me down to die
Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky

Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky - spirit in the sky
That’s where I’m gonna go when I die - when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best

Prepare yourself, you know it’s a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He’s gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky - spirit in the sky

Oh, recommend you to the spirit in the sky
That’s where you’re gonna go when you die - when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You’re gonna go to the place that’s the best

Never been a sinner, I’ve never sinned
I’ve got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He’s gonna set me up with the spirit in the sky

Oh, set me up with the spirit in the sky - spirit in the sky
That’s where I’m gonna go when I die - when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best
Go to the place that’s the best

Now there’s some Jesus freak hippie music. Loved the guitar and riffs. 👍
