Any fans/musicians? I enjoy listening to it and am currently taking violin lessons.

Absolutely a classical music fan. I think I mentioned in another thread that there was not a Russian Composer I didn’t like. I’ll take almost any classic music.

Shout out for WFMT. In my opinion, the best classic station in the US. Boston, NYC, and Detroit have good ones too.

I don’t listen to a lot of classical music myself, but it has shaped my musical tastes.

When I was younger, I did play violin, clarient, trumpet, and piano. The first three were exclusive of each other, and I don’t think I started self-teaching piano until I was on the trumpet. Unfortunately, I didn’t really pursue music as a teenager. I have been thinking about getting a guitar to start playing an instrument again, but it definitely won’t be to learn classical songs.

I am. I enjoy listening to classical music whenever I’m driving, and I played the violin in school orchestras for about 10 years and in my college’s Catholic Center choir for about 3 years.

Anyone up for an obligatory favorite composers poll? 😅

I very much enjoy classical music. Sadly, I really don’t know much about it other than what I have picked up along the way. Time to educate myself.

Can’t believe JS Bach didn’t make the list.

Glazunov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin, Muggorgsky , Prokovief, Shastokovich… I’m sure I’m missing a bunch.

Here’s a recording of Rachmaninoff himself playing it. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to sound like anymore. It seems more angry than somber, which is what I’ve heard for a few versions.

You included Debussy, whom I always loved (to my piano teacher’s regret because she thought his stuff didn’t have enough form or discipline or something) but left out Bach, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Puccini.

I wouldn’t call myself a huge classical music fan, but I like some of it from time to time, like “Turandot” and Holst’s “The Planets”. What I don’t like is all the crummy Vivaldi fluff that dominates a lot of classical music stations. Also don’t like most Mozart - it’s okay when you’re visiting Austria, because you expect to hear it there, but mostly I could do without it.

I actually prefer the other version. More emotion.

Hey those long cold Russian winters will make anyone angry. 😉

Ashkenazy’s interpretation of Rachmaninov. Often happens when another gifted artist sees some insight into the composition.

I enjoy classical music but Byzantine and Gregorian chant are tied for #1 in my book. ☺️
