So I own the side by side Douay Rheims and Clementine Vulgate Bible put out by Baronius Press. I always loved the Douay Rheims Bible and also love having the Vulgate side by side with it.
My question regards the section following the New Testament which includes more books than are in my regular Douay Rheims and NABRE Vibes. It includes three more texts.
-3 Esdras
-4 Esdras
-prayer of Manasses
Does anyone else know the history of these texts and why they are in the Vulgate in such a manner? Were they once considered scripture before the Council of Trent? If I remember correctly these texts do appear in the Apocrypha section of the 1611 KJV although are called 1 and 2 Esdras in it.
