… lies about Hindus.
I browsed now & found this .

Eight Forms of Marriage (HinduDharma: Marriage)

The dharmasastras, including the Manusmrti, mention eight forms of marriage.

Brahmo-daivastathaivarsah

prajapatya-statha 'surah

Gandharvo raksasascaiva

Paisavastamah smrtah

----Manusmrti, 3. 21

The eight types are: brahma, daiva, arsa, prajapatya, asura, gandharva, raksasa and paisaca.

brahma is the highest of the eight forms. In it the bride must not have attained puberty. “Pradanam prak rtoh”: – this statement is in the dharmasastras themselves. **A girl’s marriage, which has same significance for her that the upanayana has for a boy, must be performed when she is seven years old **(or eight years from conception)

…The** general rule according to the dharmasastras is that a girl must be married before she attains puberty: "Pradanam prak rtoh.** " What happens if this injunction is not followed?

If groom does not come on his own, seeking the girl’s hand, her father or brother must look for a groom and marry her off. But if they turn out to be irresponsible or otherwise fail to find a groom? Or if the girl has no guardian, no one to care for her? The lines quoted by the reformers from the Manusmrti apply to such a girl. She may look for a husband on her if none of her relatives, neighbours or well-wishers take the trouble of finding her a groom even after she has attained puberty

more info on Hinu marriage :

It was the custom for over two thousand years at least for **large sections of people to have girls married before the age of puberty. **

There was not only long tradition behind the custom, but it was considered compulsory at least for Brahmins in the light of certain authoritative texts.

The Indian legislature made this custom illegal, though it had so much religious authority behind it, and the performance of such marriages became a penal offence

Interesting, but the underlined words gave way. This sounds more like a sectarian view. Hinduism is a diverse belief and i can safely assure you that almost 99% of Hindus do not hold on to such a belief.

For a proper understanding of , refer to this link from wikipediateaching and customs of marriage - I have browsed through and although not entirely accurate in some aspects (it doesn’t focus much on Brahmin marriages), it is still a fairly average guide.

LOL. How many times do i have to tell you that this information is nonsense? Muslim Woman, i was a former Brahmin. For goodness sakes, none of my still Brahmin practicing siblings (and i have two sisters who married when they were in their late 20’s) were subjected to the kind of nonsensical ‘facts’ you posted. In fact, now that i remember, not even my mother or grandmother or great-grandmother were forced to marry before the age of puberty. And they were from India!

what do u mean ? Still u want to deny that yourng marriage was a tradition in India that was almost compulsory for Hindus ? Under the British law ( man made law ) , young marriage became illegal .

Atleast admit that I did not lie. Is it that hard ?

some more info:

…Reformists rise in protest against child marriages and cry angrily: “women are suppressed and are subjected to cruelties like marriage. They are denied their social rights.” But I feel angrier when I think of the fact that conditions created in the name of social reform have put the great family treasure of women in jeopardy.

I mean their prized possession of chastity. In fact I feel like shedding tears. Like Arjuna I too feel like crying that “when women are spoiled the family, the clan, declines. No, the whole world will go to rot. And all will go to hell (Strisu dustasu Varsneya jayate varnasamkarah.Samkaro narakay’aiva)”

Engagements, ceremonial engagements. They did not live together until they reached puberty and could break-off their engagement later on if they thought it wouldn’t work out for some reason. The Colonial rulers of India could not tell the difference between a Jain and a Brahmin and a Muslim let alone know anything about Indian culture and customs.
Atleast admit that I did not lie. Is it that hard ?
Well, you intended to divert and you did, whats worse, you projected a lie based on some sectarian site.

Eight Forms **of Marriage **(HinduDharma: Marriage)

Hindu sources / sites used the word marriage , not engagement. Also , at what age girls reached puberty ? Hindu scholars said it’s best to give her in to marriage ** before **puberty

----Manusmrti, 3. 21…brahma is the** highest of the eight forms**. In it the bride must not have attained puberty. “Pradanam prak rtoh”: – this statement is in the dharmasastras themselves. A girl’s marriage…, must be performed when she is seven years old

Hindu writers gave me this info that a hindu girl can’t divorce her husband . So , it’s not possible for her to re-marry. Hindu men can’t divorce but take many wives ( now can’t do that by men made laws ).

Kashi , a holy city for Hindus was known as widow’s town. Hindu girls were married to aged people & many became widows till they were 19 or 20 . In the past **they were burnt alive **with husband’s dead body ; later British banned it ; But it created another problem as widows were not allowed to marry. Many committed the major sin & parents sent them to kashi so that local people can’t know about her illegal child.
** you projected a lie based on some sectarian site.**
Still you are denying the fact. Now a days , hindus don’t do that . In the past , they did it . Why u find it so hard to accept ?

:juggle: I see that you hardly interact with Hindus in Bangladesh. Why don’t you ask them what they think of child-marriages? As i have mentioned, you are seriously mistaking ceremonial engagements with marriages. I have never denied that such events may have taken place, but it is not condoned even by the Hindu fundamentalists. It is actually frowned upon, then and now. The site which you quote from actually thinks of other Hindus as heretical, just as the Ahmadiyyas who think of other Muslims as heretical.

Hinduism is not Islam. It does not practice the same practices that Islam condones - marrying children off to 40-50-60-70 year old men. Hinduism has its flaws and dark pasts, but it is nowhere compared to Islam.

I want to know about religion , about holy book . Why don’t u tell us what the holy book of your former religion teaches about minimum / maximum age for marriage ?

Is there any bar on age gap between wife & husband ?

**Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will, and send (good deeds) before you for your souls, and fear Allah, and know that ye will (one day) meet Him. Give glad tidings to believers, (O Muhammad). - Al-Baqara 2:223
Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. - At-Tur 52:24-25
**
And those who preserve their chastity, Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, - Al-Maarij 70:29
Islam treats women as a commodity hence the condoning of Muslim men forcing non-Muslim women to marry them in Pakistan, Egypt, Arabia. Child marriages in such places are also common - extremely common in Arabia especially.

Oh dear, that would be considered Ha’ram by Muslim standards. You sure you want to be caught with the Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana? I have already told you, marriage between Hindus start from somewhere the age of 16 onwards in India, definitely after puberty. Hindus outside the continent marry somewhere along the 25-30 age group. I myself got married when i was 32.

There is no minimum/maximum age for marriage for Hindus, but it is generally accepted and agreed that all brides must be at least above 16. The difference of opinions also depends on the sect whom the adherent belongs to, but as i said, it is rare for Hindus in rural India even now, to marry below the age of 16.

strange . Who is diverting the discussion here ? I am asking what the hindus holy book teaches about marriage. It’s not your religion anymore ; so why u are so ashamed to give us correct info ? If u think , what Hindus books teaches is wrong , just say so .

Correct. It is not my religion anymore. However, i am against bigotry of any kind and false information towards adherents of other religions. If you have kindly noticed, i have even stood up for Muslims on certain occasions. Of course, they fall on deaf ears, but i feel it is my duty - in fact anyone who fears God to reject false information, even if the others ignore what i have to say.

I also find myself in a better position to reach out to Hindus who may be reading this thread. Many Hindus do not realize Christianity has been in India since the 1st century. Some have been stigmatized because the Colonial rulers of India have given them a very bad impression of Christianity. This is to also let them know not all Christians are like the ones their grandparents talked about. I am proud of my heritage, proud to be from a long line of Brahmins but also proud to be a Catholic. A Brahmin is like a Jew. As my mother always says, once you are born a Brahmin, you will always be a Brahmin and die as one. But there are several Brahmins in India, who are now Catholics and Orthodox. Still, they retain their identity - adapting traditions and customs with Christian beliefs.

but Christians don’t want to punish the sinners. Thus they encourage sinners to repeat the sins & spread the sins in the society.
For one its against the law to punish people for committing a sin, unless it is breaking a law, then the law punishes them.

For two, they will be punished in the afterlife.
