There are religious mandates to both protect life and protect the enviornment. I find, however, that there is more resistance among the religious to commit to the protecting where we live then to protecting the sanctity of life. Why should the latter issue take such clear precedence over the former in traditional religious communtities?

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Whew!! I thought when I read the title you were going to make a correlation between the two: “climate change causes abortion”, or “abortion causes climate change”. 😛

Seriously, I’d like to know if you equate dedication to protecting the environment to belief that man is causing climate change?
While I think that the man-made climate change hysteria is now, as it has been for over 100 years (first warming, then cooling, then warming again, etc) political hype designed to get people to give up property rights, I think we have an obligation to protect the environment, equal to that of protecting life. Protecting life is more cut and dried - opposition to abortion. Protecting the environment, however, is more complex considering the varied opinions of how to do so.

A more interesting question is why it appears that those who support oppressive even at times violent means to “protect” the environment and wildfife seem so casual when it comes to protecting human life. I know this is a blanket statement about environmentalists, but that’s the way it appears to me.

If the obligation to protect the enviornment is the same whether you believe man is affecting climate change or not, then I suppose it doesn’t much matter. Does, for example, the obligation to protect the enviornment require us to invest in the production of clean energy?

True.

I assume you are thinking about what the U.S. lables enviornmental terrorist groups. I don’t know what their position is on abortion but these groups are really no longer the leaders in the enviornmental movement. I think we can agree that enviornmental issues have taken on a much more mainstream flavor in recent years.

The obligation is the same, but the actions will be different. For example, chasing after Co2 limits is a waste of time since Co2 increases follow global climate warming (caused primarily by solar activity), not the other way around.
Yes. Invest in private sector solutions that are market driven. The problem with government tinkering is it usually makes the problem worse: examples: compact flourescent light bulbs increasing mercury issues, and restriction of domestic drilling which increases foreign drilling where environmental protections are far less.

Even mainstream environmentalist groups tend to be well left of center, where the pro-abortion movement generallly sits. That’s not to say there aren’t members of the Sierra Club who are pro-life.
Certainly, I’m making a generalization here.

Great point.

I think that they are often the same people.

Pro abortion values often go along with the population control goals of the environmental left.

You know when one looks at people saying the environmental movement adds to the culture of death it seems understandable that Americans would be sick of the religious right.

And what is morally wrong with being left of centre? There are many pro choice conservatives.

Ahhh goodnight you kidding me? Judging by your location obviously not. lol

Look, I have no probelm with protecting the enviroment. I always try to do my part in cleaning up after myself and others. Enjoying the garden and it’s products is one of my favorite hobbies. The probelm I have is not with taking care of the enviroment, but with those who insist on man made global warming being fact. It’s very important that we keep up the enviroment, but we must do so very wisely.

And let us not forget:

Gen 8:22
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

If your comment is intended for me, I was very clear not to say that. Depending what you mean by left of center, there is nothing wrong with it. I admitted it was a sweeping generality, but clearly those who are pro choice are more often than not on the left. And I certainly do not intend to read the hearts of anyone, even those I disagree with on climate change, or even abortion. As God will read my heart, so He will read their’s.

I hadn’t thought about that angle. They’re there, for sure, but I think in relatively small numbers, at least for now.

Jon

God gave Adam and his offspring the duty to protect the earth and everything within, but being imperfect men, we seem to have failed Him on both counts. Abortion is one of the most tragic evils that Satan has thrown down upon us.

I agree, although unfortunately it seems as if a relatively small number of activists have a lot of power in today’s culture.

I think we will find our for sure, starting January 21st.

Jon

Edit: PS See that? We do agree on some things. 😃
I would bet that we hold the same positions on about 95% of the issues facing the typical American.

But then, what fun would it be to debate those?🤷 👍

We are brothers in Christ who happen to have an informed and rational political perspective, unlike those other brothers in Christ who are politically lost.😃

The Market is our God!! The Wall Street Journal our Bible!! The Market is all powerful!! The Market can solve all mankind’s problems!!!

Where do you get your documentation this is true?

Valke2, we have discussed the priority of protecting life over all other issues on several other threads. Why try to equate protecting the environment with abortion, when it is very clear they are not proportionate issues?

My observation is based on my experience on these boards.

I’m not trying to equate the two. I am saying that Catholics and others have a much easier time ignoring or denying issues regarding the enviornment than they do on issues regarding the fetus.

A fetus is a living human being. There is no disputing the reality that abortion ends the life of this human being.

There are many debatable positions held by those who claim to care about the environment.

I’ve seen no one advocating for a dirty environment.

Doing nothing or arguing that nothing needs to be done is advocating a dirty enviornment.
