If it were the end times,

So, how should we respond to this situation?

The climate changes – the Earth has been much warmer and much cooler in the past. “Global warming” is now, apparently, causing global cooling – as the temperature has dropped in the last few years. I’m old enough to remember the great “new ice age” scare of the 70s. Somehow man was causing that too, though the hype machine wasn’t as well oiled as it is now.

The last ice-age ended only 11,000 years ago. The ice sheet covering Scotland and north of England & Ireland was two miles high.
Our planet is now still just warming up after the last ice-age. In fact Scotland, which is very mountainy was pressed well down into earths crust because of the weight of the ice-sheet. Since the ice has melted and the weight removed Scotland is floating back up to where it used to be and consequently the south of England, like a childs see-saw, is being pressed down into the crust, where it used to be. During the Ice-age the south of England was higher because of the weight of ice in Scotland. So Scotland is bouncing back up at a rate, if I remember, of about 1cm per decade and the south of England is pressed down below the sea at an equal rate. Consequently, as the world continues to naturally warm up from the last iceage over the decades and centuries the south of England will gradually flood more as its level is lowered.
During the early Bronze age continental Europe was impassable, impenetrable because it was totaly covered with forests and woodland. All these trees are natural catchers of naturally produced carbon dioxide. So the Bronze-age world had less free carbon dioxide then than now, it must be so. However early Bronze-age and Iron-age northern Europe was a lot warmer than northern Europe is today (grape vines grew in England) despite the fact that the early Bronze age was closer to the ice-age by about 4000 years (nearly half) and that there was less free carbon dioxide because of the trees.
Carbon dioxide, we are told, is a greenhouse gas, it warms the planet as it builds up in the atmosphere, but, our temperatures are much lower now than in the early Bronze-age low carbon dioxide times.🤷

Stay in the state of grace, pray always, and you will be just fine when the end times come.

God is INFINITE and when He decides it’s over, then it’s over.

Just keep in mind that the Planet Earth is no “big blue marble”. It’s got a paper thin crust and the rest of the planet is molten rock at a temperature of around 4000 degrees or thereabouts.

AND, if you want to get scared “spitless” consider that the Earth’s magnetic field flips polarity from time to time. There is a fossil magnetic record in volcanic lava in the Hawaiian islands. And maybe elsewhere.

And, the next flip is OVERDUE.

When the magnetic field flips, it first goes to zero. Which causes the magnetosphere to go away. Which protects us from charged particles from the Sun and from “out there”. Right now, the charged particles are directed to the north and south poles by the magnetosphere, where there are “magnetic funnels”.

When the magnetosphere goes to zero for a brief period a few hundred years ? ], the charged particles will directly hit the Earth and fry every living thing.

Maybe you could survive by living in a deep coal mine for a few hundred years.

You could look it up. Happens every 25,000 years or so.
So … stay in the state of grace.*

continue to do what we are already, hopefully doing, obey the commandments, do corporal and spiritual works of mercy, frequent Mass and the sacraments, pray and read scripture daily, and take up our cross each day and perform the tasks God pleases to place before us, (watch and pray) and strive to remain always in the state of sanctifying grace (keep our lamps filled with oil).

During natural disasters,
Civic authorities may implement laws,
For people’s safety.

Would there ever be a need,
For conscientious objection
To these laws?

How can anyone say in advance they will conscientiously object if they do not know what laws may be implemented.
Give an example of a law that may be implemented for people’s safety and then we can discuss that otherwise you are just whistling in the wind!

Sure,

For example,

I understand that there have been ancient religions,
Which would require tossing people into volcanos,
To appease the “gods”
Avoiding volcanic eruptions
For the sake of people’s safety.

I would conscientiously object to this.

Furthermore,

The are ancient religions practiced today,
Which worship the earth and nature.
Again, there could be a
Conflict of interest
In maintaining people’s safety.

How?

In society (religious and non-religious)
Moral reasoning begins with an individual’s conscious.
And an individual’s conscious is guided by that which is self-evident.

Not trusting in that which is self-evident,
Can remove peace in both the individual,
And with others.

For example,

There have been conflicts in the lumber industry.
Environmentalism, greed, and unemployment,
Were all issues which pertained,

To religious values.

These situations included civic laws,
And conscientious objection,
To these laws.

(I’m assuming environmentalists,
Care about people being,
Unemployed.)

And,

The worship of that which is material,
Can serve as a premise,
To environmentalism,

But,
Happiness
Can not be fulfilled,
By that which is material.

I thought the role of the Catholic in an end times senario would be to suffer happily being martyerd. Perhaps there is more to it, but there is bit in the CCC about being able to object to any unjust law imposed on a believer.
You guys really love to think about moral dillemmas a lot.

Look at it this way, there is a reason why Catholics and other Christians get martyred. One reason is that they object to unjust laws imposed on them (For example many Catholics in China are persecuted for accepting the Pope as the head of the Church).

Well, I am going to speak in the hypothetical sense, since I don’t want to get involved in a big debate over whether climate change is real or imagined.

As Catholics we have the responsibility to be good stewards of the Earth which was a gift given to us by God. Therefore, if it could be shown that something we did was permanently damaging the Earth, it would be our duty to stop doing that thing.

This would, I think, be true even if what we were doing could create conditions that will match those in the end times. After all, our duty as Christians is not changed by the End Times and ultimately nothing we can do will stop the End Times, but we can never be sure we are near the End Times until we are actually there.

You are still not giving a clear example.
Your OP asks if we might conscientiously object to laws which may be passed for people’s safety.
Laws are already in place for public safety.
As you raised the issue then tell us what laws that are not currently in place might be implemented.

Could you explain,
How these points,
Relate to my
Examples?
THE CHILD: I’m frightened.
THE WOMAN: And so you should be, darling. Terribly frightened.
That’s how one grows up into a decent, god-fearing man.
— Jean-Paul Sartre The Flies
Is it true that,
Existential philosophers
(Like Existential psychologists)
Believe that fear of death is our primary motivator?
You guys really love to think about moral dillemmas a lot.

Could you reference this?

The Church teaches that,
Though fear of death is a motivator,
The Happiness of Life is the primary motivator.

StrawberryJam, could I ask you your opinion?

Would a woman have a child out of,
The Happiness of Life,
The fear of death,
Something else?

I was probably unclear.
I had many thoughts about this.
But the fear of death and,
The Happiness of Life,
Seem related to the OP.

Some people have children,
To “live” beyond their death through their children.
Would these people be doing this out of
The fear of death or,
Or the Happiness of Life?

Some people believe that,
These two experiences are one in the same,
(No hierarchical relationship),
An infinite cycle of
Life, death, and evolution.

However,

The desire for Life (survival)
Can’t be the result of evolution,
Because it is evolution’s
Guiding principle,
From the beginning.

It seems to me that,
Life is an unchanging moral absolute,
Which has “wide” acceptance,
To which we align,
With the use of reason.

Yet,

The desire for Life,
Is self-evident,
Not the result,
Of reason.

Ironically,

Existence (Life) is also,
The principle of logic (reason).
