Cliven Bundy, a Mormon, has said his standoff with the bureau was a spiritual calling.
In August 2014, he cited his faith in a speech to members of the socially conservative Independent American Party in St. George, Utah.
"The Lord told me … if (the sheriff doesn’t) take away these arms (from federal agents), we the people will have to face these arms in a civil war. He said, ‘This is your chance to straighten this thing up,’ " Bundy said, according to The Spectrum.
But a top spokesman for the Mormon church denounced the current armed occupation of the Oregon refuge.
“Church leaders strongly condemn the armed seizure of the facility and are deeply troubled by the reports that those who have seized the facility suggest that they are doing so based on scriptural principles,” said Eric Hawkins, spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“This armed occupation can in no way be justified on a scriptural basis.”

Bundy is a fool and now he’s in jail where he belongs. End of story.
I don’t really agree with what they have done, but I wonder if there is some fault here with the feds.

I think sometimes the big wigs think they can get away with things out West because it’s mostly Natives and ranchers out there, and I think it goes as far as people not respecting their intelligence.

The federal government has been caught napping on the job out there more than once, and it’s quite stunning because the courts give a wide latitude of deference to federal agencies.

On another note, the double standard between this and #occupy is duly recognized.

To be fair, Occupy tended to mostly occupy public plazas and the like rather than government buildings. And they weren’t armed to the hilt and engaging in firefights with the government while doing so.

Exactly.
The far right-wing are defending these fanatics on Facebook and other social media outlets, saying the guy who was killed had his hands in the air.
I just gotta say this.
So when a black guy has his hands in the air and is shot by authorities, it’s the black guy’s fault (he was a criminal). But a white guy has his hands in the air (supposedly) and is shot by authorities, the white guy is a ‘patriot’ and ‘martyr’.
The hypocrisy reeks through.
