Clothing Question

I’ve also known men who liked wearing skirts or kilts or kimonos or muu muus because they found them physically more comfortable than pants, again with no cross-dressing intent. There are companies that make skirts and kilts cut and sized for men, but again if a guy is skinny he can likely find some of these clothing items that fit him at Goodwill or Walmart for cheaper.
Kilts at Walmart? I’ll have to check that out 🙂

As far as women wearing pants (“trousers” for our friends in the UK :uk: ), as I said recently in another thread, people figured out a long time ago that women have lower extremities, that terminate in some fashion (no pun intended) on both ends, and clothing that illustrates this reality does not, in these times, send men into fits of passion, and it probably never did.

I also have OCD and the worst thing someone can do is ask for reassurances.

@camoderator the question has been answered. Can you please close this thread before it turns into a debate as this subject always does? And i am asking that posters don’t turn this into a thread to give their personal beliefs on “modernism” and women’s clothing and modesty. You will NOT be helping the OP.

OCD is a medical condition and we aren’t allowed to give medical advice on the board. This is best discussed with a qualified therapist and pastor.

But as we said in another thread, avoid the graphic tees for church.

That’s a personal opinion. I avoid graphics that are inappropriate for church, such as some metal shirt with a huge design of demons and reapers, or a political candidate shirt, but I don’t avoid all graphics. I have graphic tees with cats, saints, Catholic designs, church-friendly rock shirt designs, local city, school spirit and sports team designs, and I feel free to wear them to OF. (EF requires more formal clothing in order to blend in, so I usually just wear some long skirt or dress.)

If someone else doesn’t want to wear graphic tees, that’s fine, it’s their preference. If someone else doesn’t like what I wear to church, that’s tough.

Darn, where did you see that? Indeed perhaps, you should get off the internet haha!!! '. . . Women can’t wear men’s attire ? Incredulous!!! I haven’t seen that anywhere in the scripture. A lot of man-made dogmas distort the actual truth.

OCD, as @DeniseNY so rightly points out, is not best treated by having other people weigh in on the details of a particular obsession, worry, or intrusive thought. Everything I have read suggests such responses are harmful. If you have OCD, seek treatment from a properly-trained physician or psychologist. If you are Catholic a Catholic counsellor who understands the science of OCD may also be helpful.

The only way I can even fathom that it could possibly be construed as inappropriate would be if you’re trying to “pass” as a man. Wearing men’s t-shirts and hoodies is 100% fine. There are hard-core traditionalists who say women should only wear skirts, dresses, etc, that women shouldn’t wear make-up, no one should wear earrings, that tattooed people should hide them, etc. It’s all hogwash, legalism, and is NOT found in the Bible, the Catechism, or Church law. You’re overthinking, friend. Ask God to give you peace. As others said, speak to your priest and follow his advice.

Hello, Merida. I have panic and anxiety disorder, with a bit of the OCD thrown in for good measure. I really can’t answer your clothing questions other than to say my wife wears my t-shirts often. But I can assure you there are no “dumb” questions to be asked. If one wants to know, one has to ask. Pay no attention to anyone who suggests otherwise. 🙂

What is the line between crossdressing and fashion though? It seems like a difficult boundary to dustinguish.

Maybe I should just get off the internet haha.
As you made the comment, I don’t know what sources you are searching on the internet, but I would suggest that it would be wise to search for different sources.

There are a plethora of websites by people who hold themselves out as Catholic, but are also holding opinions with which the Church does not concur.

As I have not read through the thread, I may be repeating advice.

If you have a question about morality, instead of presuming that some person on the internet is an expert at it, it would be far, far better for you to speak with your parish priest, as they are trained in moral theology, and most people expressing opinions are not so trained.

Which is another way of saying, if you have the flu, you don’t talk to your local pharmacist or dentist; you speak with a doctor; and even more so, you don’t speak with your neighbor.

Cross-dressing occurs when a person is actually trying to present themself as the opposite gender, rather than just dressing in a manner that they like or think is fashionable.

I agree it’s a blurred line, given that many entertainers and wannabe entertainers might choose to dress a certain way in order to get attention or as part of a theatrical presentation on stage, rather than because they truly want to become the opposite gender. Marlene Dietrich used to wear menswear all the time in an era when that was not so common for women, but no one would ever mistake Marlene Dietrich for a man. Likewise, David Bowie used to wear dresses early in his career and became known for wearing some pretty crazy stuff, but by the time he was middle-aged he was almost always appearing in some variation of men’s wear.

Entertainers like these spawn a host of imitators. I knew guys who wore makeup and ladies’ clothes because they were trying to imitate Bowie, not because they were trying to be women. The interesting thing is that a lot of girls liked this, so the guy wearing makeup and a frilly ladies’ top would find himself with half a dozen girls chasing after him, which just encouraged him to do it more.

Generally if someone is decently covered, I don’t feel like it’s my place to judge why they are wearing some certain style of clothing. If they hve some sinful intent, then as long as it doesn’t involve me (like they’re not my parent, child, or spouse) it’s their issue to discuss with their priest or minister, or not.
