Ok, guys. I was the one who posted the youtube video on here. A while back, as I have looked at liturgical abuses, I thought this one was also Catholic. Thanks to the person who said in one of the post that this might have been an Espicopal Church. I took it on myself and did the research, and it turns out, it is from an Espiscopal Church. Here is the website.

Tony, you got in while I was formulating my last post. 🙂 Thankyou for the clarification. My last post still stands.

David.

Thankyou brotherhrolf, rest assured it was not my intention to offend either. It was rather to suggest that this particular video is in all probability not a Mass (let alone a Catholic one). Unfortunately, my manner was totally inappropriate, as was my mixture of sarcasm, irony, hyperbole, understatement, … very ill-judged. Please accept once again my apology.
To CradleCath and others who may inadvertently stumble on my comment, rest assured that I do not in any way condone any such abuses, I find them just as horrible

I .** I was in high school when the changes started to occur in 1967. If you grew up after that time, you have no frame of reference. You are that frog in the water. You accept as the norm things which are anything but normal because you have no frame of reference.**
Excellent observation, Brotherhrolf!!! It’s sort of like the “they know not what they do” comment that Jesus made as he forgave while hanging on the cross.

Ah, yes, the infamous Polka Mass. I have actually seen that one and, yes, it was a Catholic Mass. As I pointed out earlier, we have many indigenous musical traditions here in south Louisiana. There are no Missa Chank-a-chanks reflecting Cajun dance hall traditions. The brass bands associated with Jazz Funerals in New Orleans do not enter the church. There was a premier performance of a new Mass based upon all of New Orlean’s musical heritage which was performed at the Cathedral and had all three archbishops in attendance but it was a concert performance.

Obviously, not all of the videos in circulation represent actual Catholic Masses. It is difficult (unless you can actually hear the responses - prayers) to discern between a high Episcopalian mass and an OF Mass.

It was not my intention to rebuke anyone. It is frustrating to me to realize that a) I was alive and in high school when everything changed (p.s. I’m not dead yet, I’m feeling better…:D) and b) there is ofttimes the supposition that we all liked the changes back then. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Although the Motu Proprio has not been acted upon in my diocese, for the first time in over 40 years I have some sort of hope that we are finally waking up and acknowledging that we threw the baby out with the bathwater in 1967
My parents used to attend a small chapel in Pittsburgh during the seventies that still had the Latin Mass. The priest was elderly and retired. He was also a wonderful example of what a priest should be. His name as Fr. Leo Fredricks.
I was a teen-ager then, and remember hearing my dad talk about Fr. Leo’s reaction to some of these abuses. Fr. had heard a local parish was having a ‘polka Mass’ and just started to weep.

Good work Tony,
I am very disappointed that anyone who is worth his salt in catholicism would not be able to spot a fake a mile off. We should know and feel what we believe, its our faith and when fakes are presented we should be able to differentiate and not be led astray.

Peace and love

I think it’s great that you looked into this further and posted the true source of this video. Of course, that won’t stop the next person with an axe to grind who wants to recycle the video as a broad condemnation of the Ordinary Form or Vatican II.

I’m sorry, I don’t see how this is funny and it seems to me like a sacrilegous abuse, Catholic or not.

Thank God that there are still Catholics left who find these abuses horrible. As far as the “well-meaning priest”, I don’t think so. Ten to one the video comes from California &, if you think that Roger Mahoney & Todd Brown are “well-meaning”, you are wrong. They know about these “Masses”, they allow them. Their in-your-face contempt of the Pope & all things Catholic is an insult to all of us who believe that Christ lives in the Eucharist, that He deserves our utmost respect.

By the way, perhaps this particular Mass is rare…but abuses are common-place. I doubt there is anyone posting here who has not attended a Mass filled with abuses.

…Does your parish actually** schedule ** EEM’s?Do they have to?
…Does your Sunday Mass use girls as altar servers? Is this not allowed by the Vatican? If it is not allowed, than this is an abuse. If it is allowed and parishoners attended these Masses than this is not abuse
…Do your homilies include pro-gay marriage & “gay families” in their recital of i intentions?
…Do you know where the Tabernacle is located?
…Are there Liturgical “dancers” in your Sanctuary?
…Are the opportunities for Confession plentiful & scheduled to make it easy for all to attend?

IMO., when we minimize these abuses, we’re part of the problem.
The clowns are way inappropriate. They make the Mass look like a joke :(. Being that it is from an Episcopalian (excuse the spelling):o it would seem sad that there is not more revernece.

\Look at the number of those raising their hands. What’s that about anyway? \

**It happens in Melkite and Eastern Christian Churches generally (Orthodox, Non-Chalcedonian, Assyrian).

Did you think the Latin Rite was the standard of all Christian liturgy?**
From the Roman Catacombs.

Oh, my friend. No, it is not funny…in the least. There are those of us who, like myself, grew up before Vatican II…I can’t speak for anyone else but…

There is an awful lot of water under the bridge since 1967.

I’m the poster who made the remark re. the hands. We all agree that this was an Episcopalian service, may God forgive them. Now look at the hands again. They’ve raised their arms and are shaking their hands in the air. This is not reverent nor what is depicted in the mosaics from the Roman catacombs. We don’t do that in our RC Church and I sure hope you are not doing that in yours.

Also the person who did the research re. the service might consider citing your source on that You Tube site so everyone else doesn’t think it is RC. 👍

I didnt think it was funny or ridiculous or hilarious at all…

Not because I’m a prude and cant laugh at my own expense…but…it just isnt funny 🤷

Did you ever attend one of those balloons masses? Years ago I heard from someone whose husband attended Notre Dame in the early 1970s that there were balloon masses in South Bend at the time. Instead of “body of Christ” the priest or eucharistic minister would say “change your life” or something of that sort.

All of this garbage at the same time the parish wreckovators were tearing out altars and statues.

No, the sight of women in diaphonous gowns wafting bowls of burning incense down the main aisle of my cathedral was more than enough for me…or having to sing Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sounds of Silence” and “Bridge over Troubled Waters” at my high school graduation mass in 1969.

Mattapoisett: You would have a point if this were an isolated incident, but it is not. Maybe this single video was Episcopal, but do a youtube search for “Catholic Liturgical Abuse” and see how many examples you get. I don’t condemn the OF broadly, however, the number of sacriligious things that occur definitely indicate systemic problems.
