Well this just came across my news feed and I had to take a closer look:

The reviewer states:
“The first episode explores an archeological piece, the Shroud of Turin, and its proof of Jesus’ existence, his death, and his resurrection. I’ve watched it three times now, and I find the discussion fascinating.”

So I guess I’ll try to catch the shows with a packet of salt handy nearby. :cool:

Thanks for reminding me, I need to write it down so I remember to watch it. Also, the “Killing Jesus” book has been made into a movie and will be on the National Geographic channel on Palm Sunday. I don’t get that channel so will have to watch it at my sister’s.

We don’t have cable or satellite anymore. I really miss these channels. I read the book Killing Jesus and it was good.
 
Anything on CNN can’t be presented from a Christian religious perspective.

From what I heard, the series explores six different famous relics of Catholic Christianity and explores whether they are authentic or not; as if a Catholic’s faith is dependent on whether these relics are genuine or not.

This is more Anti-Christian/ Lent / Easter programming from the secular Media Crowd that has become an annual tradition of Cable TV and Network programming.

The experts who discuss the material are all carefully hand picked; you’ll never see anyone from EWTN or Catholic Answers on these programs.

I sincerely doubt anyone will “Find Jesus” watching these programs.

I’m not saying you cannot or don’t watch them, but beware.

This isn’t religious programming.

Six programs of Junk; I think the Shroud of Turin is the only one maybe worth watching.

Aww, look at that, CNN is going to run a program about the **“nature of Mary Magdalene’s relationship with Jesus” **on Easter Sunday.

The found Jesus’s “Secret Brother” too in a burial box.

Ancient non-Canonical texts found in the sands of Egypt.

What these programs are about is sowing as much doubt and disbelief among the general audience out there as possible, many of whom I am guessing haven’t spent much time studying or researching Christianity (because it’s banned in all the schools) or even go to church that much.

Just because it is on TV and it’s about Jesus doesn’t mean it’s good TV.
 
Yes it is sad how they bring out these programs on major Christian holidays to put doubt in people’s minds. 😦
 
It’s silly to pass judgment until you actually see the program.
 
I always try to give these shows the benefit of the doubt, but they always disappoint. I will look forward to hearing a review of the shows.
We don’t have satellite or cable anymore.
 
Well we went to see the “Divinci Code” too and knew it was off the wall. If you watch it for the entertainment value I guess it does no harm but I can see those who don’t know much about religion will be fooled.

I like to watch these shows with my husband. He knows a lot about the bible and religion so he can tell me where they get it wrong. It’s happening all over though. On the history channel talking about the Crusades and putting their own spin on things. I think if we see what is being put out there though we can defend it better.

One can write to CNN and tell them what they feel about things. Tell them to have people on who give the other side of the issue.

Normally I’d agree, but CNN and the “History” channels have a certain dubious track record when it comes to treating Catholicism fairly.
 
So they interviewed:
Notre Dame University’s Dr. Candida Moss
Duke University’s Dr. Mark Goodacre
Fr. James Martin, SJ

And others. Conclusion was as expected, so I wasn’t surprised. I do give CNN credit for interviewing solid representatives of the faith.
 
I thought they did a decent job. I also didn’t know the cloth that covered Jesus’ head was recovered. I was wondering about that.
 
I watched it last night. I was confused why they did not bring up that radiation causes carbon dating to be wrong. I read on Wikipedia that if there was an earthquake then the carbon dating would be off.

A personal theory of mine is that since Jesus was the only person ever resurrected, then maybe resurrection releases radiation, skewing the carbon dating, and burning the cloth in a photographical way.
 
What is your opinion about this series? It sounded convincing to you?
 
Although they claimed that the carbon 14 tests proved the shroud was a medieval creation, they introduced some doubt of that claim with the research of the sudarium of Oviedo and how it relates to the shroud. I was glad I watched it. I’m looking forward to seeing the shroud in Turin this Spring.

The show on the Shroud of Turin should have been longer and covered all the evidence for its validation. It did not even mention any of the microscopic evidence (of which there is a lot). It did not bring up the contamination on the cloth which would have effected the carbon-14 dating (done in 1988) which also affects the dating on other ancient cloth, such as Egyptian. It did not mention the repair’s made to the Shroud made by nuns in the fifteenth/sixteenth century which is where the sample for carbon dating was taken. 🤷 This is a typical show done by CNN and others around Easter time, mostly filled with fluff and stuff for the Christian audience, for ratings!

If carbon dating is valid when it comes to the shroud, does that mean we can finally stop the childish debate about the reality of evolution? 🙂
