She is obviously not particularly intelligent, I think that may cause the most harm to her children. She makes all the same old hackneyed arguments, that show more than anything else that she has no clue about what faith is.
How do you feel when people say that people who raise their children WITH God are not intelligent and know nothing about reality??

Do unto others…

Something to ponder: God knows who and what this woman is, yet allowed her to bear and raise children anyway.

I’ve seen a lot of irresponsible and selfish people who are transformed into mature Christian adults when they become parents. Granted, it doesn’t always happen. But non-churchgoing parents who want their children to have a good ethical and moral foundation have been led by their own children away from their self-centered world view to become believers. The prophecy of Isaiah may be more literal than we realize.

Isaiah 11:6 Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; The calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them.

There is a distinct difference here though. Generally, when an atheist is calling someone raising their child in the Christian faith unintelligent, it is based on their assumptions about the faith, rather than hard facts.

In this instance, we are calling the woman unintelligent because she has explicitly demonstrated her lack of knowledge (the definition of unintelligent). It is not an insult, it is an observation.

Actually, no it isn’t an observation-it’s an opinion. You believe that she lacks knowledge because she lacks faith because in your opinion faith=knowledge. You’re doing to her exactly what atheists do to Christians all the time-and they call it observation too.

All people are doing by going after this woman with negative comments about her intelligence is cementing her opinion that having faith is not something she wants for herself or her child. It’s going to keep her running in the other direction, which is exactly the opposite of what those of us with faith would want her to do.

My statement actually has nothing to do with her lack of faith, it is based on my observations of her level of knowledge about Christianity, based on what she wrote in that article and on her blog.

Perhaps unintelligent is a bit on the pejorative side, because it expresses an opinion about her overall levels of intelligence, not just her knowledge of Christian faith. I would say that she is un-knowledgeable about Christianity, and allows this lack of knowledge to negatively influence her opinions.

Call her stupid. Yeah, that will bring her to believe in God. That will show her how much Jesus loves her.

To those who want my story… yeah, so many have asked. The problem is I’m actually a (very minor) professional writer, and so writing about the most important thing in my life is daunting. And its a little embarrassing to bring up things that seem a little too supernatural for the average taste. Maybe we should start a thread on CAF with conversion stories.

So, anyhow… I will get to it, I promise. Its a doozy. I’m one of those the Holy Spirit had to drag kicking and screaming all the way. Believe me, I had the heavenly host in stitches.

But on topic - man, I just hate how hateful Christians can be. Its like they want heaven all to themselves and screw the riffraff. Stop hating the unbelievers. They aren’t doing it on purpose. They might even have read all the stuff you want them to read. If their heart is closed for whatever reason, they aren’t going to see the light. Stop calling them stupid. That achieves nothing.

Or maybe you really do want heaven to be a very exclusive country club?

I talk about this all the time-what is the REAL goal? Is the real goal to bring more people to Jesus or is it to prove how much more righteous you are for believing and following all the rules?

Here is what I found interesting.

I thought she didn’t believe in God. If he doesn’t exist, then who (Answered) their prayers. I don’t think she doesn’t believe. She seems to be struggling with her faith. Something we’ve all been through.
yes her arguments are amateur and daft
