Co-habiting - in parent's home

A co-worker of mine is so excited that her future daughter-in-law will be living with she and her husband and her adult son until the young woman and the son marry next spring. She makes it known proudly that they will be in separate bedrooms (but on the same floor).
She says they loved having lots of people around.

They are about 60 and attend mass faithfully at a nearby parish and consider themselves good Catholics and are very involved in their parish.

I am honestly shocked. Isn’t this scandalous and sinful? Or have things changed that much?

Obviously they don’t think so. Is this common today? Would the church approved?
Any comments appreciated.

Hello there! Let me first say that a sin is a matter of one s conscience. However, being that she is a Catholic, she most likely knows of the severity of her son s actions. The Church would not approve of her actions.
 
Well, give your co-worker the benefit of the doubt that the engaged couple in this house is practicing chastity. It is rather indiscrete that she would share the details of this at work, especially since most people would think that she is enabling cohabitation and thus be seen as a hypocrite in her beliefs. Just pray for her and for the young couple.
