The Diocese of Joliet, one of the larger U.S. dioceses, is to expect a big change in leadership. After over 26 years as head of the diocese, Bishop Joseph Imesch is set to turn 75 next June. He asked for and was granted a coadjutor bishop to assist in the transition.

The coadjutor has not yet been selected. My candidates, not that I expect Pope Benedict to call me anytime soon (in no particular order):
Bishop Thomas Paprocki, auxiliary of Chicago
Bishop Michael Sheridan, of Colorado Springs
Bishop Robert Vasa, of Baker, Oregon
All of these are courageous in preaching the faith (in my humble opinion), native to the Midwest, and in their 50's (I think).
We are also short an auxiliary since Bishop Kaffer retired and Bishop Fitzgerald died just a year after his ordination.
Any thoughts on the future -and the past- here in the diocese?
