Pointless ramble/rant about my coffee making endeavors…
Coffee makers leave a funky taste, at least the ones that are affordable. Also, dislike the use of paper to filter coffee. It seems to impact the flavor a bit.
Loved the bialetti moka contraptions, but they use rubber gaskets and those go kinda funky no matter how many times a day you clean them. I’m also now rather allergic to rubber (rash develops anywhere that touches rubber, don’t trust drinking or consuming anything that might’ve been in contact with rubber).
Instant coffee can be good, especially organic, but I found that any time I liked a brand, it wasn’t always readily available. It also can be, even the organic ones, processed with chemicals…and requires more research than I typically avail.
my current gold standard:
There are stainless steel (and other options of) screens (and cone screens) that can sit in or on top of the coffee mug. This has, by far, been making the cleanest tasting coffee I’ve tasted yet. I’m also mildly allergic to chromium though, so it’s possible down the line, this will be out. Maybe I’ll find a copper screen some day. This also has the benefit of being the most travel-friendly option, after instant coffee.
