Hey there Catholics and non-Catholics:

At which point(s) do you think is(are) the Catholic Teachings inconsistent or incoherent? Please do not reply if you haven’t actually gone reading at least one or two articles in the library catholic.com/library.asp or the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) or the Compendium of CCC.

I think it is the most consistent and coherent Christian theology and the most beautiful and sensible theology or even belief.

As a Catholic who has read the CCC and the Compendium of the CCC and some of the things at Catholic.com I have to say that NOTHING is inconsistent or incoherent!

For the most part the CCC is logically consistent. I would expect nothing less from the Roman Catholic church.

I am sure that from the perspective of many Protestants who may look into it, it must be a marvel.

But within the section on Original Sin (I forget the reference numbers now) it seems to make an attempt to blend the Eastern and Western notions, but in separate passages. In that sense it is not really consistent, people may read what they want into it.

In fact, the whole teaching on Original Sin and some related concerns seems to be in a state of flux, with further clarification in the wings.

That is my impression.

As a Protestant I have read the Catechism and various articles and I tried and tried to find something, anything, that was out of place or incoherent. I couldn’t. If one reads and prays and understand what the Church really teaches, I don’t see how they could. I wasn’t able to, even though I wanted too, and thats why I’m converting.

Catholic doctrine is completley consistent and coherent. It is perfect, as it comes directly from God and is without error.

The CCC is coherrent and logical to a degree of amazement to me at times.

I would advise people of all faiths to read it. It is full of beauty.

What an awesome testimony! Thank you for sharing your thoughts…praise be to God.

The coherence of Catholic doctrine and teachings is so strong it is shocking. When I was a Protestant I was always so frustrated and confused about my faith, now feel at peace with my faith and practice.

The only confusion and incoherence I encounter is in those who try to mix and match their Catholic faith to fit their own agenda’s, or are simply uneducated about what the Church really teaches.

Our neighbor, a non-Catholic, was trying to convert my Catholic wife with the usual negativity towards the Catholic Church she learned at her church. As she tried to discuss her own beliefs and their superiority, she realized she wasn’t as well grounded in her belief system as she thought she was.

She told my wife “I wish our teachings were explained in one book.”

Hi

I am a Non-Catholic and I admit I have not read the articles suggested by you. I am an Ahmadi a peaceful Muslim, I have read OTBible, NTBible and Quran . I think from my point of view the Catholic Teachings as I know from the posts of Catholic friends here are not that consistent and coherent. I quote from Quran/Islam/Muhammad:

Quran

[4:171] O mankind! The Messenger has indeed come to you with truth from your Lord; believe therefore, it will be better for you. But if you disbelieve, verily, to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and in the earth. And Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.
[4:172] O People of the Book! Exceed not the limits in your religion, and say not of Allah anything but the truth. Verily, the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of Allah, and a fulfilment of His word which He had sent down to Mary, and a mercy from Him. So believe in Allah and His Messengers, and say not, ‘They are three.’ Desist, it will be better for you. Verily, Allah is the only One God. Holy is He, far above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And sufficient is Allah as a guardian.
[4:173] Surely, the Messiah disdains not to be a servant of Allah, nor do the angels who are near to Him, and whoso disdains to worship Him and is proud, He will gather them all to Himself.
[4:174] Then, as for those who believe and do good works, He will give them their rewards in full and will give them more out of His grace; but as for those who disdain and are proud, He will punish them with a painful punishment. And they shall find for themselves beside Allah no friend, nor helper.
[4:175] O ye people, manifest proof has indeed come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear Light.
[4:176] Then, as for those who believe in Allah and hold fast to Him, He will surely admit them to His mercy and grace and will guide them along a straight path leading to Himself.

I respect your religion. I love Jesus and Mary.

Thanks

I would love it if you can point out the apparent inconsistencies. But if you do not have the time, that is fine too. For me, having been an Oriental Orthodox who came into communion with the bishop of Rome, there is nothing inconsistent with my faith as an Orthodox (some different terminologies and expressions to be sure).

Blessings,
Marduk
