Hi everyone - hope everyone is having a good day so far?

I cant believe its new year already and my RCIA class begins on tuesday - something i look forward to every week as we are going over the sacrements until the Easter Virgil Mass.

Everyone was asked to bring in our birth/marriage/baptismals/christening certificates and once i looked at mine i actually had goose bumps up and down my back and was a little creeped out!

Easter falls on the 23rd March this year

On 22nd March 1983 i was christened in St Andrews Church (COS).

On 23rd March 2009 i am to be baptised into the catholic church at St Andrews Cathedral.

Freeky coincidence or what???

I said to my mum n dad in law - they are devout catholics and even they got a little creeped out.

My guess divine intervention - anyone else??

God many times works in mysterious ways! Good luck to you on you 👍

God bless,
ZP

Someone once said there are no coincidences, only times when God chooses to remain anonymous.

I think that’s an awesome gift from God. When I first returned to the church back in the 80’s…I went to my first confession (in many years) on the Feast of the Divine Mercy. I didn’t know about the Feast of the Divine Mercy it until I told my grandmother…who was elated! My birthday is in April-the next year Easter sunday was on my birthday. I still think that was a birthday present:D

Excuse me, but weren’t you already validly baptized in the Church of Scotland (I assume that’s what COS means)?

I think these little coincidences serve as a way to inspire us- nothing major, just a little reminder. On the three-year anniversary of my baptism, Pope Benedict XVI was elected pope.

Hi,

Yes i was but i never recieved communion etc and never went to church etc.

Although the catholic church in scotland accepts my christening in the Church of Scotland - because i married catholic and have been an active member of my chapel for over 5yrs now - we decided a baptism is approriate again to symbolise my new journey.

Hope that makes sense

It doesn’t make sense to me. We have one Faith and only one Baptism. We don’t mark our new journeys with a symbolic Baptism. Perhaps they are doing a conditional baptism?

Dear BPBasilPHX - the OP’s baptism’s validity cannot be confirmed. Since it is assumed that the baptism/christening he received was meant to EXCLUDE him from the Church, it’s validity comes into question because a Baptism into something other than the Body of Christ, i.e. the Church, invalidates the Baptism. It has yet to be done. It isn’t just the formula that must be gotten right in this context. Does this make sense to you? Need a Biblical reference? Look it up - the questions some Jews had over the Baptism of St. John the Baptist verses the Baptisms given by the Apostles.

Peace,

Gail

Hi

I understand that catholics dont mark everythng with a new baptism - maybe it was a conditional baptism but from what i see on this forum there are very strict diffrences in geographic churches etc so what im trying to explain makes sense in my dioscese - but not in yours.

Its not derrogatory - just fact - first time i came onto this forum i thought some people treated catholicism as a cult - very strict - very demanding etc. Also that it was protestant bashing site but ive learned within the board how devout some people are.

For me - a baptism is wonderful - im honored to have it done - but the community spirit is a joy to be part of too and the Archbishop is prooceeding over it so im happy.

Don’t mean to burst your bubble but Easter 2009 is April 12, not March 23. I pay attention to these things because my birthday is March 25 and only once in my lifetime has it occurred before my birthday and that was Easter 2008.

I double checked to make sure this thread wasn’t started last year too because then it would have been much more accurate.

At any rate, welcome home!

Hi

In Scotland or at least the arch diocies if glasgow It is the 23rd of march - I know easter is a movable feast but this is when we are
Celebrating at the cathedral.

According to the Vatican astrologers who calculate these things by moon etc it’s 23rd but I’m only going by what’s been said by the holy see and not the weatherman

Ps if it wrong can someone please inform the pope as he needs to speak to the boss to recalabrate the lunar cycle!

Easter is April 12, 2009, and the vigil will begin after sundown on Holy Saturday, the 11th

Since you are validly baptized in the Church of Scotland you will not and may not be rebaptized, but you will be welcomed into full communion with the Catholic Church through Confirmation and the Eucharist. St. Andrew is a great patron.

Welcome home!

Whenever we disagree about things, my thought is to ask Father Sherpa on the Ask an Apologist thread. You’ll get an authoritative answer there.

From observation at my own parish, and from teaching CCD when my kids were little, my understanding is that if the church that baptised you believes in the Trinity and baptises that way, you’re already baptised.

Father Serpa…although he might be leading us, we’re not in the Himalayas.

It was the March 23 last year. Unless you are thinking that Easter falls on a Monday - which it never does. I think you need to talk to your Priest again. Easter 2009 is April 12. Easter 2008 was March 23. My Calendars all show that March 23 is a Monday.

I say you are looking at last years Calendar. Check again, I went to the Vatican’s site and they don’t even have anything past Jan. 2009 on their Calendar. Remember, we are now in the year 2009, not 2008.

Is that a joke? There are no Vatican astrologers. Astrology is a grave sin against the First Commandment. Please think before you speak!

Good catch, I only wonder if our OP has mixed up the words “Astrology” and “Astronomy”. Yes, the Vatican would have an Astronomer I just don’t know if he is the one who will determine when Easter is because all you need is a lunar calendar etc to figure it out.

And today’s Gospel - 7 And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.
8 I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove;
11 and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”

i believe this God’s way of letting us no that he still wants his saints to be remembered and honored for their love and devotion.

last yr was 150yr anniversary of our lady of lourdes. i prayed to God for a child and that if he gave me a girl i would name her bernadette after the saint and marie after his mother. three days later i found out i was pregnant and i found out i was pregnant on 2-11-08 the feast of our lady of lourdes. she was born on 10-11 the feast of mary’s divine maternity.
