I would say there are – although it doesn’t prevent there being divine intervention in some cases.

On my way home from work I’ll occasionally listen to either EWTN or Calvary Chapel Radio (“The Bridge!”). Both stations have had shows where a person will experience something that some would interpret as a coincidence and some as a sign drawing them to whichever faith that station is about.

I would imagine that most (if not all) faiths have stories of people having chance encounters drawing them to their respective beliefs.

Can we agree that God would not purposely do something to draw someone away from the truth? If so, then we must state that at least for those coincidences that do so that they are just coincidences.
 
I’ve heard that some coincidences are because you are thinking of a particular thing, so you notice it more when it happens. For instance, when I was in elementary school we went on a trip to a pioneer-themed historical site. I started noticing a lot more pioneer-themed commercials on TV, but I think it was just because I was already thinking about pioneer stuff. Otherwise it probably wouldn’t have seemed out of the ordinary.

I vote “yes”; “of course”.

Just because *we *find special correlative significance in two or more events does not mean that God does or intended these things.
 
there is an ancient chinese proverb called the red string of fate (or something like that) that says everyone has a red string attached to their ankle and that each string is connected to the ankles of everyone they will meet in their lives thus implying that you don’t meet people by chance but by fate. basically, you meet every person who comes into your life for a reason, not just by chance. of course, this is a pagan myth so don’t go believing it but i think it is interesting. .

Coincidences are an inevitable consequence of physical laws. There is no reason why some people are killed in an earthquake and others are unscathed. It is absurd to think every accident is avoidable and unnecessary. How could it be arranged that no one is ever in the wrong place at the wrong time?

It is also absurd to believe** every **accident and disaster is willed by God. Only a monster would deliberately inflict suffering and death on persons and animals. Misfortunes are the result of living in a world controlled by the laws of nature which cannot possibly cater for every contingency for the simple reason that they have no insight into the needs of every individual.

This is what i’ll agree with. It seems that this will happen to me to every once in a while.
