Colin Farrell says the Catholic Church got it wrong when it criticized the recent decision by voters in Ireland to legalize gay marriage.
“It was really funny because one of the arguments when the vote went through was that the church came out and said, ‘You know, this was a dark day for Ireland,’ and all you could see was literally rainbows everywhere, posters of rainbows, T-shirts of rainbows, men and women hugging, men and men hugging, women and women hugging, and yet cut to, ‘This is a dark day in the history of [Ireland],’” the Irish actor, 39, told E! News this weekend.
“A dark day in the history of a country is internal civil conflict and war and bloodshed,” the father of two added. “It was a great day.”

Who knew if you added a hug to anything it automatically makes it great. How about:
Farrell is an idiot! :hug3:

I’m shocked, shocked that a Hollywood actor goes against the teachings of Jesus.

He doesn’t seem to understand the difference between an argument and an observation.

That it was a dark day in the history of Ireland is not an argument. The fact that he thinks it was is telling.

I see.

So arguments should be analyzed based on the positive emotions of those who make them.

If someone is happy and hugs someone else, they must be right.

Mhm.

So all of the people who defend marriage as being between one man and one woman, so long as they do so while smiling and hugging each other, they must be right.

Right?

And all of those who disagree with them need only be happy and get along with each other and wear cute images on their t-shirts. And then THEY can be right, too.

RIGHT??

And anything that doesn’t involve murder or bloodshed is not a dark day. But what if the murderers smile and hug each other and wear rainbows on their trousers. Is it a dark day THEN?

Come on, dude. Let’s get serious. 🙂

I have read numerous times in articles that his brother is gay. Perhaps he feels the need to be supportive. Although he could have done that without a public statement. He was raised Roman Catholic but currently “doesn’t practice”. Also, from what I have read, he baptized both his sons.

Bottom line, our Church’s teaching is what it is. I don’t agree with or condone his statement; but I am compassionate and leave judgment to our Heavenly Father.

Since when did any political victory - of any sort - not involve celebration?

Would SSM supporters be proven evil if, and only if, upon acquiring their goals, they went into the streets scowling at the asphalt?

The, shall I say, interesting thing about that behavior is even when they get their way it’s not enough or they are angry about something.

It just goes to show unequal gay and straight relationships really are.

That’s a great example of generalization if I’ve ever seen one.

Lumping all gay people, in this case couples, together is one reason why the Church lost so many followers.

Show me an unhealthy heterosexual relationship and I’ll show you a healthy homosexual one (yes, I’m aware you think they’re “all” unhealthy ). The same can be said in reverse.

Good grief. Some random celebrity gives a soundbite and it’s suddenly ammunition against thousands of strangers he doesn’t speak for!

Code:
You are being sarcastic right?
Yes, I’m sure. It’s a quote from Casablanca.

Everyone should see that film.

But, the point is taken in the general attitudes of society because I’m getting tired of Catholics voting for pro-gay “marriage” politicians for their own selfish gain (ie subsidies or feeling/looking good) and Catholic leadership thinking they can befriend big government without the beast turning on them and then acting all surprised and telling me how “unexpected” it is when for instance Ireland legalizes so-called gay “marriage” or when, golly gee, those politicians whose party says people have the “right” to so-called gay marriage actually vote for it!:rolleyes: Imagine that—a politician voting the party line!

Say it ain’t so!🤷:o

And haven’t Hollywood actors and actresses have been with few exceptions living a worldly lifestyle for almost 100 years.

This really is nothing new.

=Finite;13034801]That’s a great example of generalization if I’ve ever seen one.
Societies and civilizations make policies all the time based on the general good of the public instead of wasting resources to make someone and their sympathizers not have sad feelings.

:tsktsk:

No one is lumping anyone in with anything. The facts are streaming in that gay relationships aren’t living up to their promoted billing.

Face it: relationships that go against natural law are overrated and emotionally promoted by those who seek selfish, worldly gains.

It’s not a good idea to tell other accounts what they think on the Forums. :slapfight:

Otherwise, that comment is antedotal at best. I see the same line of reasoning with people who try and justify a dysfunctional straight relationship which are the plenty of.

But consider two things:
  1. If gay relationships are so powerful, good and great, why do their supporters a) even care what people think and b) have to degrade straight relationships to promote their cause? Can’t gay relationships stand on their own merits?
  2. One study of born-again Christian straight couples who pray together daily and who had premarital counseling showed that they account for 1 out of every 38,000 straight divorces. There’s also a Catholic professor who has been tracking students who take his course involving marriage discussion and that only 1% end up getting a divorce.
Let’s see so-called gay “marriage” produce those numbers.
Good grief. Some random celebrity gives a soundbite and it’s suddenly ammunition against thousands of strangers he doesn’t speak for!
Sad thing is that people actually use those kinds of comments to reinforce their behavior. People are looking for the approval of others ALL the time, especially when they are in questionable or bad, sinful situations like a gay relationship. :yup:

I feel it would be more beneficial for the Catholic Church to promote what we agree with. A loving marriage between one man, one woman, for life and before God. This has to be the greatest good union.

Sadly today, it is not just the gay issue, it is the breakdown of marriage for life, in the UK almost half of the 15 year old children are not living with both their biological parents. When families break down, communities suffer, and there seems to be a greater need for social services.

Marriage between a man and a women is what marriage is. The Catholic Church is obliged to also say what it is not.

A key mission given to the Catholic Church by Christ is the salvation of souls. The identification and condemnation of sin is necessary in that mission.

I believe that the majority of those that leave the Church that Jesus founded, the Catholic Church do so because they dissent a teaching of the Church. Thing is…Jesus Christ and His Church are One and the Same so they are dissenting a teaching of Jesus.

But this also is not a surprise as we see in the Bible where many of Jesus’ disciples left him due to a hard teaching.

Agreed. It’s terrifying how blind our vision and clouded our minds may become when our hearts are hardened. 😦
