Christ came first of all to remind us to turn again and worship God. I love collecting examples of songs of praise:

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were an offering far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my life, my soul, my all.

Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, Son of God and Man, Redeemer
Your will be done.
Mantle me with your compassion, mercy and wisdom
That I may learn to do your will.

Christ work through me.
Christ stand with me.
Christ be in me.

Would anyone else like to share their special praise songs?

I have favourites too:

Lord, I believe: help thou mine unbelief. (Matthew)

I am thine Oh Lord, I have heard they voice,
And it spoke your love to me.
And I long to lie in the arms of faith
To be closer drawn to thee. (Crosby)

Here am I Lord! Send me. (Isaiah)

For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.
–Psalm 84:11

Many clergy recommend the beautiful adoration of Br Charles of Jesus (Charles de Foucald):

Father, I abandon myself into your hands: do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Again, from Micah,

And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

From Amos:

Let your judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

From the great Catholic Christian, Trappist and writer, Thomas Merton

I have found and have known, by Your great mercy,
That the love of a man’s heart that is abandoned and broken
and poor,
Is most pleasing to You and attracts the gaze of your pity.

Father of life from whom every good comes,
Loosen our talents to sing your praise
In words beyond the power of speech.

It is God within us that enables us to pray!

Does no one have songs of praise they love? We use our heads to think about God and the Church, but surely our first thought as Christians - and it was the mission of Christ himself to teach us - is to turn and worship Our Lord.

It woud be lovely to be able to put together a selection of Songs of Praise: surely we can do better than this? Or does it say something about our spiritual life: maybe I ask more than I thank.

The first thing that came to my mind, is a verse from the Old Testament.

“Who is like unto Thee among the gods, O Lord? Who is like unto Thee, magnificent in holiness? O Terrible in renown, Worker of Wonders, when You stretched out Your right Hand, the earth swallowed them! In Your Mercy You led the people You redeemed; in Your strength You guided them to Your holy dwelling.” (Exodus 15:11-13)

And the other, is Our Lady’s “Song of Praise”… “The Magnificat” (Luke 1:46-55).

God bless.
