Unfortunately, the cost of FUS caused me to leave (among other things)
I agree with going to FastWeb, I got some good scholarships there ($150 for being a single, at the time, white Catholic female? Sign me up!)
Have you offered it up? Cause that helps?
Are you involved with a household? Have you talked with them? Are they praying for you as well?
What is your parents’ perspective on all of this?

Talk to your advisor, bring a San Diego Community College course description book with you and go through it looking for any and all the gen eds. offered at your home city’s community college that are transferable and take them over the summer when you are home. My first year of college I went to a Catholic school. I had a horrible experience and decided to transfer. I went to community college for almost all of my gen eds. (and my major’s 100 and 200 courses) and saved bigtime $$$. Even though I wasn’t sure which 4-year university I’d end up at, I carefully examined all the course descriptions and requirements of the universities I was considering and took community college courses that closely resembled those that were offered at the university. By my senior year I only had 30 credits remaining and the university I had transferred to (my fourth college attended counting community college) accepted all but 2 of my courses from the previous three colleges. I had switched majors two times and schools three times and yet graduated in four years. Community college was the most well spent money of all the four years (quality education for reduced price). Definitely look into your home town’s community college summer courses and how they would transfer to FUS.

I concur.
Try taking the GenEds elsewhere and then transfer them to FUS. How many GenEds to you have left?

I’m not involved with a household, but I have friends praying for me. And, of course, I’ve been praying about this as well. My dad thinks that I should stay here at FUS because it’ll be better for my future. My mom thinks that I should move back home if it’ll make me happier. But basically, they’ve both told me that it’s up to me to decide. I agree with both of them. I think that an education from FUS will be better for my future, but I know that I’ll be happier living at home. So it’s a very tough decision for me to make.

Perhaps NOW is not the time to be at FUS. Go to a school closer to home for a while, and then return. Best of both worlds 😃

LOL, one of my friends here actually recommended that I go to a community college for a while and then transfer back to FUS if I wanted to. That’s actually not a bad idea. 😃

When were you there? I was at FUS '02-'03. I was a Comm major Spring '03
I graduated spring 2003…I loved being comm arts major…Prof. Coyle was my thesis advisor and he’s one of the best professors at FUS as long as you can handle sarcasam;)

Cause it was so long ago, I don’t remember Prof names, but I had a really cool prof for Script Writing.
Oh, and I was an AWJ sister, so you prolly knew some of my sisters 😉

Not necessarily. Transfer students tend to get less in the way of aid (the school wants your money for 4 years, not 2!)

Our dd, a transfer student, looked at FUS (hubby and I are alumni) and liked it OK. They offered her a whopping $1000 in scholarship money. (Like that would even cover books 😉 )

She’s at a small, local school that gave her a good scholarship -considering she’s a transfer, commuter student. She’ll graduate with some debt, but no where near what many FUS students are graduating with.

My husband went to FUS last fall for an alumni reunion and talked to some of the students. Most of them will graduate with LOTS of debt. —KCT

Then I guess transferring to FUS is not such a good idea. 😛

If I move back home, I probably won’t transfer back to FUS. I’m not 100% sure about my major right now, so my mom suggested that I move back home if I’m still undecided. FUS’s housing fair is tomorrow, so I have very little time left to decide! :crying:

Do they offer distance learning for undergrads? I know they do for graduate students? If so, that may cut down the costs too and you’ll be home doing it (the best of both worlds)?

Distance learning is only offered for the M.A. in Theology & Christian Ministry.

JMJ–Have you decided what to do yet?
I found out that my housing deposit for next semester is refundable until June, so I don’t have to make a final decision yet. 😃 But I’ll most likely be returning to Steubenville. Thanks for asking. 🙂

We recently visited campus with our high school junior who is looking at various colleges. The visit to FUS was awesome as everyone was very nice and the students were full of joy. The Mass that we attended was also amazing. I don’t know if my son will go there or not as the decision is up to him and depends on what he might want to major, but I know he was happy with everything about the campus and the people. What do you see about the pros and cons of FUS?

I think FSU would be a good place to meet a potential spouse.
I used to go to FUS, and I got the feeling that a lot of girls were there for their MRS. degree, more than an education.

hmmm, well, it’s okay with me to pick a college that has a high percentage of serious Catholics to pursue your education with the hope of also meeting your future spouse. 🙂

Very true. I was just observing that it seemed most of the women were more intent on finding a husband, than getting their degrees, but I just might be crazy 😃
