For real, I’m not that much into planning. I don’t care if the Priest wears shorts and sandals, I’ll be dead chillin’ with St. Peter.
You sure? You could be in purgatory where you would be forced to listen to recordings of Zamphir and Mettalica, or there is always the possibility that you could end-up in…

I grew up listening to hard/acid/heavymetal rock. don’t know if it would phase me maybe others, however B Streisand uh no (reminds me of a JP Sartre short story of hell). And I like PURPLE by the way (no inference implied by saying “the way”). At the end of life on earth I want a cheap box and rejoin the earth (ashes to ashes dust to dust). Why spend 5K on a casket. Do I care if mine leaks?!! I always said it was good to fertilize plants since GOD made them. Don’t waste the money, give others.

Hey at that point I might be color blind

I’m sorry, but you’re wrong.

A funeral Mass is both for the person who has passed into Eternal Life (with God we all pray) and for those left here on Earth.

Why you might not find the term “essential mourning” in the sacramentary, a funeral Mass would be downright deficient if mourning was not touched upon during the intercessions and the homily.
You are reading more into my post than was there. We do pray for the deceased, and so the Mass is for the “repose of the soul” of the deceased. It is also for the living who remain behind, to offer comfort and hope.

And, yes, the intercessions do mention mourning. But it is not an “essential component” of the funeral Mass which was what I said. I fail to see how I am wrong.

A big “thank you” to all who have thus far responded - the percentages indicated in the poll have surprised me (do you know how difficult it is to even find black vestments these days? Nonetheless,).

And I am particularly interested in the comments made thus far and hope to see more - some of the ideas and concerns expressed are things that we have not as yet discussed so will be included in future meetings: we are overrun with catalogs, fabric samples, photos of custom work, etc., and although we don’t intend at all to completely replace the older vestments and accouterments, we wish to present vestments which have genuine liturgical significance to all parishioners and all will certainly be of the most noble work, no matter how simple or ornate the vestments might be.

I do hope the vote will continue until the ‘cut-off’ date and very much appreciate all comments.
