Hmm, is black an option? I may be wrong but I think we had black in our OF liturgy this year.

I don’t think it’s an option. However, I do recall, back in 1976 during the Good Friday Liturgy, one of the priests in our parish wearing red, the other in black. I remember at the time that it was most unusual.

In my parish, black is worn on Good Friday and at all funerals.

In certain countries, I have also seen a [sky] blue used for Marian feasts.

In the Latin Tradition only within Spain is blue permitted. In the Byzantine Tradition we use blue for Marian Feasts! 😃

Not true, Austria has requested and received an indult to wear blue as an option on Maria feasts, as has Tanzania ( I regularly go there and stay with one of their bishops. He wore blue on the Feast of the Immacualte Conception and asked him about it later on that day)

So it is clearly not just Spain, and I imagine that there are other countries as well.

I’ve also seen blue used in Philippines.

I believe blue is also used in Poland. (ProVobis, please correct me if I’m mistaken.)

And FWLIW, blue is not at all unusual among the various Eastern and Oriental Churches, particularly for feasts and commemoration of the Holy Virgin. 🙂
