When it is said that the Colosseum was built with the spoils of the Temple of Jerusalem, could this mean that the actual stones of the Temple could have been used in the Colosseum’s construction?
Unlikely - that would be a LONG way to haul stones. More likely the treasures taken from Jerusalem were used to fund the construction of the Colosseum (the oft-cited inscription says, roughly, “the emperor Vespasian ordered this new amphitheater to be erected from his general’s share of the booty” - Vespasian having been the general in charge of the siege and sack of Jerusalem).
The LAST thing you want to haul in a ship is stones!
Apart from which, it’s unlikely that smashed and burned stones would ever be used in a new project.
But on the Arch of Titus in the Forum, the Romans are shown hauling treasure from the temple, including the gold Menorah; it makes sense that these treasures would finance a later building project.
