When Tim Staples, a former Pentecostal minister decided to convert to Catholicism, his girlfriend invited him to her house for a prayer meeting. He went. They started praying for him. They held hands. It all began very gently, “O Lord Jesus, we thank you for Tim, we pray that you bless him…” Five minutes later, they shouted - **“Come out of him you demon spirit of Catholicism!” ** 😃 Tim tried very hard not to laugh! 😃 This story just indicates the kind of ignorance that some Protestants have and what they think about Catholicism! 🤷

The kind of POV that incident implies is not as outlandish as it may seem. From some perspectives, it’s entirely plausible. Whether it is plausible, or not, depends very largely on what goes into building up such an idea in the first place.

And FWIW - do Catholics have no outlandish ideas about Protestants ? :hmmm:

woww… lol!!

Did you know that Timothy Staples brother Terrence also converted to Catholocism and is now a Catholic priest I just thought that every one on this forum would be interested in knowing that also one of them wrote a book called nuts and bolts I cannot remember which one it was though

Let’s be sure to understand that not all Protestants think this way.

Be assured that we Methodists have no such notions. I have been acquainted with Pentacostals, having attended an Assembly of God church in my teens. I was surprised how many former Catholics attended and that they were the most anti-Catholic of all. Calvary Chapel attendees are just about as bad. Anti-Catholic attitudes turn me off cold.

Thanks for the clarification :D. I have some really good Methodist friends, and they come to my youth group events because out of our whole group of friends, they’re pretty much the only ones who don’t go 🙂 And we love Methodists too, don’t worry. It’s easy to group all protestants together, and although we really don’t like luther or calvin or those guys, it’s hard not to love other nice people like ourselves 😃

BTW he’s a really good speaker! I wish I hadn’t read the first post all the way through… otherwise I’d have fallen off my chair laughing

Good think he’s got a sense of humor. If any of the fundies I clashed with tried that to me, the only demon they’d see is the Demon of Poisonous Remarks and Biting Sarcasm.

Hope that they were , in ignorance praying against the ’ universal’ ( or catholic) spirit of hatred that has gotten into all humankind since that agent was invied in, in The Garden !

May the prayers of the Woman, the enemy of our enemy , Mother of us all , our Bl.Mother be there for all such agents of self hatred , the basic fault line for most of the evils around !

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us !

I have never heard of any outlandish ideas from Catholics about any other religion. Of course there is always a nut here and there but nothing of any substance. On the other hand I have had several non-Catholics tell me things like the Pope is the Anti-Christ, Catholics are pagan, Catholics don’t believe Jesus rose from the dead because they still have Him nailed to the cross, the Catholic Church had tunnels connecting the priests to the nuns living quarters and would have fun at nite, the Catholic Church would kidnap young girls and bring them up as nuns (this was from a Presbyterian minister), Saint Peter’s was built with the proceeds from using prostitutes and more.

That sounds like the sort of thing my ministers would say! They know I am catholic now but I haven’t dared to meet them since I joined my catholic church because I know I would get a good ear-bashing! 😦

Are catholics so badly hated by some protestants!? I suppose it is just a big thing in America?

Do you always make excuses for those who devalue Catholicism (by claiming that it’s satanic in nature)? May I know of some outlandish ideas comparable to this that recent Catholics have made of Protestants?

…wait…so the demon is still there!!! Oh no!..
Oh noez! Teh ecksorsizzum din wurk!111 :bigyikes: /snarkasm Things like this are so absurd, you almost have to laugh at it, otherwise you’d cry.

Yeah as a former Pentecostal I can tell you that for some Pentecostals Catholics are on the same level as Satanists. Well perhaps a bit better than Satanists. Between Satanists and Pagans
