I’m new to this site/forum so if I’m in the wrong section please let me know.

I have been away from being a practicing catholic for awhile (30 years) however I didn’t just leave I am what most people refer to as a holiday catholic.

My sister and brother in law have adopted to children and I am godfather to one of them and I need to set some sort of good example for them as they are being raised in the catholic faith.

A few years ago (I can’t say exactly when) I noticed that everything seems to have to be sung or chanted during the mass. I’m not saying that mass should not have hymns and singing, but I find that during the chanting of short verses I am paying more attention to trying to chant than paying attention to what I am saying.

There are other little things that have changed over the years, but maybe I just need to get used to it. Is there anyone out there who feels this way or is it just me.

I kind of feel that way, even as a traditionalist I can find it difficult to do the chants.
I just try to say the hymn words correctly. Nobody can tell whether your in line with the tune.

Our priest chants various parts of the Mass. He has been ordained 3+ years. The prior pastor, who was well past retirement age when he did retire, also chanted parts. And I have heard numerous others do likewise, so it is not just an isolated incident.

Welcome back. Make good use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is an exciting time to be in the Church; we have a fantastic Pope, who is urging us to get to the heart of what being Catholic is all about. And a lot of what he is saying is that being Catholic doesn’t start at the Church door Sunday morning, and end when we walk out after Mass.

Congratulations on being godfather. May you have much to contribute to the children, and many opportunities.

Welcome back. 👍

Congrats on godchild, recently had one myself.

try some different parishes, i have never been to one that chants. we do sing a lot more than we used to, but i prefer it.
