If we came from only Adam and Eve or even say Noah’s family from the ark. How would the problem of incest be dealt with. As well when Cain is marked so noone kills him wouldn’t everyone already know what God said if we are all only from Adam and Eve?

Simply put: When the survival of the species (Human) is concerned and while the population or lack thereof warrants it, then incest is not a problem.

Both the sin as well as the problems that would happen with genetics.

God did not forbid it, therefore there is no sin.

Regarding genetics, God could take care of that as well.

Ok thanks for clearing that up and what about the Cain issue then.

Remember, much of the first eleven chapters of Genesis are figurative language, not meant to be literal.

I suggest you get a good Catholic scripture commentary, such as the Collegeville Commentary, if you are interested in bible study.

There is currently genetic evidence that all humans descend from common ancestors. Therefore, it follows that in the beginning, interbreeding was not an issue.

What do you mean by common ancestors because I always thought the descending from common ancestors meant we descended from a certain group of people in a certain place not we all descended from two people.

There are several theories, including the most recent common ancestor. Nothing conclusive. But in any case, it supports that in the beginning interbreeding was not a problem.

Incest was prohibited in the Mosaic laws, by the time of Moses, but not for all time from the time of Adam and Eve.

Incest today in most cases, at least in the US, is illegal up to your 3rd cousin I believe. So marriage to your 4th cousin would be legal, some areas it’s even closer in relation. So at a certain point, everyone is related to each other at some level.

Whether it would technically be considered incest back then or not, God told Adam and Eve as the first commandment in the Bible to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28) so it was fine. God gave them the commandment to multiply so it was fine, He wouldn’t tell them to do something that was sinful.

As far as I am aware Catholics are required to believe that all true humans (rational soul) descended from a single couple. However we can postulate that there were soulless biologically compatible hominoids (biologically the same - or similar but no rational souls) around and offspring between them and true humans would be true humans.
