Last week, I put in a prayer request here on the forums. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=197508

I have been out of union with Rome for quite some time, and I finally came to the realization that I was wrong, and so I sent emails to the archbishop here in Cincinnati, as well as the director of vocations.

Some of you know that I have been a transitional deacon in an independent catholic group about a year or so away from priesthood. I had been sitting on the fence about returning to communion with Rome. One of my fears has been being stripped of my orders as deacon.

Well the vocation director called me today and we talked for a little bit, and it appears that if I do come back to Rome, to be in full communion with the Church that I will no longer be a deacon. They will declare my orders invalid, and poof, I will be back to where I started almost 7 years ago.

Apparently once all the kinks are worked out, and with approval from the Holy See, I could start over again and enter into seminary. I am 38 years old, God has been calling me. I tried my best to heed his call, but obviously it’s not what He wanted.

I guess the decision for me is do I stay laicized, or do I continue my vocation. I need prayers, and advice and just want to talk this through.

Welcome, home, gelsbern! My prayers for you in this trying time. If it’s the Lord’s will for you to be ordained, it will happen.

Will pray for you directly tonight in evening prayer,
mp

I don’t have any advice other than continue on the road to Rome! I’m so glad you’re back.🙂 I will be praying for you.

Better to be a member of the laity on the right path than a deacon on the wrong path. What is the harm in starting over once you’ve come Home? The time will go by anyway—and 38 is young!!!🙂

Coming home…
Sometimes the trip is arduous isn’t it? but it is ALWAYS worth it! Try not to look at what you leave behind but keep your eyes and mind focused on where you’re headed.
7 years is nothing when looked at over a lifetime. We tend to get very hung up on wasting time or how long it will take us to attain a goal instead of remembering that all of life is a journey back to God.
I’m excited for you! How blessed you are to hear a call from the heavens asking you to come to serve. As you discern how best to do this, be strengthened by the knowledge that there will be people praying for you.
The Church desperately needs good, holy men to become priests. Maybe God didn’t want you to be ‘just’ a deacon, maybe he wanted you to be a priest

Will keep you in my prayers. For some reason I thought of you when I saw a picture of the Seminarians at the Walk for Life and saw that a former classmate of mine is in the Seminary.

welcome home
given the title of your post, you may find the Coming Home network of great assistance, since you are in a similar situation to Protestant clergy who convert, and find their vocation seems to have “gone up in smoke”
you can contact them through EWTN
