I’ve had a really bad time with my faith recently and in that time I’ve come out to my parents, but I can’t help thinking to myself that this was wrong to do so, like if I have something which is bad then I shouldn’t really talk about these feelings and I should try and get rid of them, my friends know and my parents kind of reacted okay my mother who isn’t practicing asked if I told the priest about it but I haven’t…
Just a part of me regrets telling them because I shouldn’t talk about this stuff and I don’t know how to respond to that 🤷

We all struggle and it’s better to be honest about it, then to pretend that you aren’t having issues.

As a parent, I would rather have my kid be honest with me then try to pretend that nothing is wrong when it is.

Suppressing emotions (and problems) leads to depression and anxiety issues.

You’ve done nothing wrong. It was good that you told your parents, suppressing things like this does no good. :hug1:

Agreed. You have the right to express yourself and your feelings just like anyone else.
Mary.

I suppose it matters what you mean about “coming out”

“Mom, Dad, I am gay and struggle with this, I have known for some time and I need your help and support.” Is way different than “Mom, Dad, this is my gay lover, deal with it, yo.”

Why don’t you think you should talk about this?
I’m not a therapist, or a priest, but I can tell you that it is very important to talk about these things with people we trust.
It is how we grow into closer relationships with people, and that is a major part of our faith that a lot of people disregard: the building of a community, and for that you need to make yourself vulnerable to people.
We are not meant to go through life alone and without support, but we need people to know our struggles so that they can support us, and love us for who we are, not who we present ourselves to be.
You don’t have to talk about it all the time, and you shouldn’t rely on others 100% for your emotional well being, but I think you did the right thing telling your parents. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

Peace

There’s nothing wrong with seeking love and support from your family and friends. It’s also important that you love yourself for who you are and be at peace with yourself. It doesn’t matter if you’re gay. Remember God loves you, and if he wanted you any other way he would have made you any other way.

I don’t see how this lends anything constructive to the support the OP is seeking.

You should live your life chastely and be careful what and who you look at. Pray all the time and God will show you the way.
