…Jesusus broke the bread and gave it to his disciples and said take and eat, this is my body given up for you…

He didn’t place it on their tongue.

Why the worry about the physical manner in which we receive the Eucharist?

I don’t mind at all on the hand.🤷

I have received with the hand all the time. I don’t get the ordeal with receiving it on the tongue. I suppose some people find it more reverent?

Jesus did not place His Body in the hands of the Apostles because this was their ordination Mass, so to speak, and as priests, they were receiving in the hand.

Watch an ordination Mass on TV whenever you have the chance. You will note that the celebrant and the newly ordained concelebrants take the Sacred Hosts in their hands. They “take”, as opposed to “receive” because they are participating in a priestly function. It is also rare to see a concelebrant receiving COTT.

Either method of receiving Holy Communion for the laity, whether COTT or CITT, is valid. However, if there is a danger of profanation of the Sacred Host, then, CITH should be suspended, per Redemptionis Sacramentum. Furthermore, COTT is the default and CITH is granted via indult. Indults can always be rescinded.

This is not and never was the practice with the Extraordinary Form.
