No. I would like to think it was based on some common sense. To make a long story short, I had gone through a really rough patch and was likely clinically depressed, and was sitting zoning out on the televison - it was my means of escape., When I realized it, I literally got rid of it.

To be honest, most of what was passing for main channel programs was dumbed down to the lowest common denominator (okay, that is my opinion!). Recently someone mentioned Seinfeld; I never watched a show through although I occasionally came across it at someone else’s house. I thought it was beyond a waste of time, and bout the same caliber as other programs with their laugh tracks cued to every other comment by an actor.

To this day it drives me to distraction to have a television on at some other place droning on in the background. I would far rather have some music (exceptions are any jazz beyond Dixie, rap - which I refuse to call music - or someone sawing away on a violin in a “serious” piece of classical). Some bluegrass, rock (except electronic excuse), blues, Gregorian chant, and my favorite background channel on Pandora is Herb Alpert.

I truly do not miss television; there has not been one single day I have wished to go buy one.

👍 I only asked because it’s such a rarity (4% of US households)

Not at all. A very rational explanation. I’ve enjoyed your posts over the years.
