Hello. If you don’t mind my asking, what is your academic background in Catholic theology? And are your comments based solely on your own opinions and personal study, or are you using other sources?

Thanks
My background in Catholic studies has been my own study, but my background prior to becoming Catholic was a Protestant Bible institute for pastorial ministries. I converted to the Catholic Church five years ago after a couple of years of loving it from the outside. I am a zealous studier and researcher of the Faith.

As for the resources I use for this commentary I am working on, I am using the Early Church Fathers and Doctors of the Church, consulting the Catechism, modern commentaries, etc etc. The interpretations of this commentary is not based upon my opinions, nor is it my private interpretation. I am not an original thinker. I sift through the best commentaries of Galatians in my opinion, which are the Fathers of the Church, other medieval commentaries as well as modern commentaries, and I try to bring a concise but informative explanation to each passage, based upon correct doctrine guided by the Catechism of the Catholic Church. All my commentaries that I have written are done in this manner. I have also put together commentaries on the Bible that are nothing but direct quotes from the Church Fathers, which are called catenas.

I should have explained that in this thread ahead of time. I am a traditionalist when it comes to Biblical exegesis.

I too am a convert and converted five years ago! We have similar passion for studying and learning. I have your commentary bookmarked. Where can I find your commentaries which are nothing but direct quotes from the Church Fathers?

There is only one thing that I would suggest to you as you prepare your commentaries. If at some time in the future you may be considering publishing a book and sellling it, you might want to be more careful to document the sources from which your comments are based and use quotation marks and proper source reference so that the reader will be able to distinguish between any personal comments you might make and those made by others. I know it’s an extra step to take and it can become very cumbersome, but it would at least give the potential buyer/reader a properly documented source. And publishers before they will accept your work will be very demanding to assure that you don’t violate any copyright laws by not properly referencing your work, and ultimately you could be challenged and criticized for plagiarism if the documentation is absent. Now if it is just for your own benefit and use, you can be less careful. But when you make something public, even on a blog, and a particular publisher or writer recognizes that you are lifting their work, you could face some legal problems. Just a caution to keep in mind.

Good job!

Hi,
May I just echo these sound words of advice from this poster(Psalm 51).
I am looking forward to reading your work and I wish you the very best of luck with it!
God Bless,

Excellent advice. As for this commentary I have not directly quoted anyone that I have not referenced, I am only consulting them and picking the best interpretation according to my preference based upon correct doctrine, and then giving a concise explanation with those ideas in my words. But those I quote I make reference to them. Since this is a work in progress I do plan to provide footnotes.

I don’t plan to publish my work in order to put it on the market, just provide them as tools for others to use. I read a lot of the Fathers, and many of them from the 5th century on gleaned from the Fathers before them when writing commentaries. There are some great Bible commentaries from the Fathers but the only draw back is that some of them are extremely long winded and not practical unless you pack a lunch before you start to read them. My goal is to provide commentaries on the Bible that draws from these masterpeices and to make it practical to use for the average student of the Bible.

Here are some of the commentaries that I have done and worked on

I just took a very quick glance and bookmarked your links. Which one is the commentary of only Church Fathers?

Thanks.

Thanks!

The catenas on 2 Thessalonians, Acts 1-5, part of 1 Thess, and Jonah are all Fathers citations. I followed the method that Aquinas did in the Catena Aurea. They are found here catenas.wetpaint.com/
