Comments on Nelson's NKJV Compact Reference Bible

I have been using the NJB translation for quite some time and have been comfortable with it.

Recently, I have been given a copy of the NKJV Compact Reference Bible. I am debating whether to exchange it for a copy that has deuterocannonicals or just use it as cross reference for my NJB version.

I know Jimmy Akin likes the NKJV. He wrote a piece about it (not sure where it is). I see nothing wrong with using it, but not as your primary Bible (doesn’t have all the books).

You CAN’T exchange it for one with the deuterocanonicals, since the NKJV translators do not regard these as inspired Scripture and therefore did not produce a translation of them.

The RSV-CE does, of course, have the deutero’s, and, in many places, even “reads” like the NKJV, since both versions are in the so-called “Tyndale-King James tradition”.
