Commissioning: Valid or Invalid?

A Catechist needs to be present for Commissioning Sunday. What about in the case when the volunteer has been assigned to go work out of town on that weekend that commissioning is to take place? This is the person’s first time being a Catechist. Thanks in advance.
 
Perhaps the volunteer can be commissioned at another Mass, or another time outside of Mass.
 
Commissioning, of the catechists, is really blessing them and a way of presenting them to the parish, so they can see who the catechists are. It’s not necessary and is not done in all parish’s. So if someone can not make it, to the ceremony, theny can still teach the religion class.
