As for Deuteronomy 13:6-11, here is the quote
‘“If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, secretly entices you, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers, 7 of the gods of the people which are all around you, near to you or far off from you, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth, 8 you shall not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him or conceal him; 9 but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. 10 And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 11 So all Israel shall hear and fear, and not again do such wickedness as this among you.’
Here are some important points
1) The punishments that were commanded in the Old Testament were** limited**, for a **specific time ** and situation. Christians do not punish people with these Old Testament punishments since we Christians are living under the New Testament now.
However, the punishments that are commanded in Islam, such as killing anyone who leaves Islam, are for all time.
2) This Old Testament commandment does not say to kill anyone who leaves Judaism or leaves the true religion,
but “If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul” secretly entices you, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’”
Notice also that the commandment isn’t to kill everyone who entices you but
So it appears that these people living under the Old Testament could worship other gods if they wanted to without being killed or even hurt. But if “your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul” secretly entices you, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’” they are to be killed.
Islam commands that the person is killed just for leaving Islam, even if he doesn’t try to convert other Muslims to his new belief. For example, if a Muslim became a Christian and didn’t preach to Muslims about Christianity or invite them to become Christians Islam still commands that he is to be killed!
Again, this commanded in the Old Testament was ** limited**, for a **specific time ** and situation. Christians do not punish people with this Old Testament punishment since we Christians are living under the New Testament now.
However, the punishments that are commanded in Islam, such as killing anyone who leaves Islam, are for all time.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, if have I have written anything wrong, please correct me.
