You bring up more than one issue in your blog post. We need to “unpack” it.

I gather you are saying that nature tells us what we ought to accept as right and proper for our species, that teaching children otherwise is wrong, and that those who do so are wrong.

As a fellow Catholic I can see that males and females are part of how species pass on their genes to new generations, but not all creatures do so, and some engage in same sex relations, not to generate but merely to bound with one another. So, raw nature isn’t necessarily the best way to defend marriage between one man and one woman.

Neither is tradition–many of the Patriarchs had more than one wife, and many cultures around the world still practice this.

Each culture teaches its chldren what it believes is morally right/acceptable. If the government of a country wishes to teach a certain program of ethics to its publically funded schools, who can really object? That negates the teachers being wrong to teach it.

By now you are thinking I’m an apostate or rebel Catholic, but I’m not–I’m quite orthodox and traditional. I’m writing this to say that you have to have better arguments than these in a society that has rejected its Christian heritage in favor of hedonism. I agree with your sentiments, but I’m afraid they wouldn’t sway those who disagree with Christian teaching or who have never been schooled in it. Sadly, much of our supposed Christian society is apostate (if not formally within their hearts and minds). I’m afraid it’s not enough to point to the birds and the bees as examples. Nor is common sense common anymore.
