A few months ago I found a healing prayer of archangel st raphael, after the second time praying and everytime I invoked raphael and talked with him, I could get the response in mind quickly with a friendly and humour tone. I then read the article written by doreen virtue mentioning archangel raphael is best in humour. I feel amazed. Then everytime I invoked and talked to him, I can really get the guidance, explain and comfort from him who treats me like a true friend full of love.
E.g, Raphael even said he will be there whenever I invoke him. I thanked him sincerely and said he is good after explain, then he said because he is from God and he loves everyone whom God loves. When I asked about something I cannot let go or forgive, he guides me to look from another aspect that I never. I asked about the future, he gave me guidance which later I found I could avoid bad things happen by following his instruction.

I guess God sent me this archangel to me to heal me? but sometimes I doubt if this is really Archangel Raphael, or Holy Spirit or God? or just my intuition? How can I know who it is?

Anyone has similar experience?

Yikes! Please, as a Catholic, you should not be looking to Doreen Virtue for any sort of truth or guidance regarding angels or anything else about the spiritual life.

She is not Catholic. She is not Christian. She endorses practices - like channeling spirits and angels – that are in direct contrast with the Catholic faith.f

It’s fine to ask the angels and Saints of God to pray for us, to guide us according to God’s holy will. It is not OK to try to gain information on the future from them.

God bless you!

Doreen virtue is new age.
Angel cards are divination or tarot card reading, black magic/ occult

A guy in the charismatic renewal in my country, who hears the Holy Spirit, has visions, the charism of healing and prophecy, who has permission from his bishop and Pope to exercise his ministry, he said the Angels on those cards a fallen angels. Demons.

Also in regards to your experience:
St Theresa of Avila wrote: because Satan can appear as an angel of light, a person can never believe they had a mystic experience unless three holy spiritual directors (priests) affirm that your experience was from God, not illusion, or Satan.

Hi shanishan,

I have been thinking about your post, and wanted to give it careful consideration when answering it.

I have some of the same concerns that Gertabelle does, too.

I have heard of the name Doreen Virtue, too, regarding the internet. She is a New Age practitioner, as opposed to a Catholic source on Angels. I would be looking at Catholic sources/resources on Angels.

We also should not be asking anything regarding what will be happening concerning the future.

I would absolutely encourage you to seek out spiritual direction, regarding what has been happening. We need to be able to discern, regarding spirits.

Thanks for the info. I made a cross first and pray and invoke Archangel. So I guess they won’t be demons? And the response was never evil at all, but direct me to do good instead.

I want to know more about archangels also. Is there any catholic books/ articales about archangels?

Thanks for the reply. I do not play occult, just pray the Prayer of archangel raphael for healing. If raphael does not respond and guide us, how could we feel better or be healed?

I seldom tell the priests about sort of private revelation even I want to. The priests may think I am silly, or maybe illusion.

Thanks for the reply. I know doreen virtue is not catholic/ christian, but i dont know she is opposed to catholic source.

I had communicated with God before, one time I worried and prayed when I lost company card, He told me where it was and another day that was there.

I just use the same way to invoke/ pray to archangels. Maybe from now on I should only pray to God and Mary. :o

Is there any real Catholic source/ books about angels?

Yes, shanishani, there are Catholic books written about angels. Here is a list of them, from the EWTN website.

Here is a link to them, from EWTN:

ewtn.com/expert/answers/angelbooks.htm

Also, EWTN has many articles written about angels, too.

I pulled up their library for you, and did a search on Angels for you, which brought up several articles for you to look at.

Here is the link to the EWTN library:

ewtn.com/v/library/search2.asp?pgnu=1&version=TXT&fldlibrary=AllLibraries&afterdate=&author=&keyword=Angels&code=&search_type=contains&recentadd=

The reason that I suggested spiritual direction for you is so that you could receive help with your particular situation regarding what is happening.

Some people do receive private revelations from God/the Holy Spirit, and I don’t think that any of us here are qualified to answer that for you.

“Angels and Demons” by Peter Kreeft is a book that will give you Catholic information, based on the teachings of Doctor of the Church, St. Thomas Acquinas. It is written in question and answer form, and is easy to understand.

We always need to look to the guidance of the Church about faith and morals. Remember, that the evil one can disguise himself as an angel of light!

Hi Dorothy,

This book is listed in the list that comes up on EWTN.

You are right about this-the part of your post that I highlighted. I am encouraging this dear soul to receive some spiritual direction in her situation, so that she can receive help and guidance in her situation.

I doubt that any priest/spiritual director would think that she is being “silly” or some such thing.

That’s why you tell priests, because Jesus told Faustina, obey no vision, submit it to a spiritual director and obey them. That way satan can’t deceive you and you can’t deceive yourself.

It is a rule for ALL private Revelation.
Also, a bishop must approve it for others to follow that devotion or advice

Yup, this is very dangerous

One way to check them if they are from God, is to ask them to say,“Blessed be the names of Jesus and Mary.” I have read the books of some saints , and when they asked the spiritual beings in the apparition, the real Jesus and Mary can easily say this, while the demons masquerading as Jesus and Mary will only say “Blessed be the names…” and they will skip the word Jesus and Mary."

Anyway, it is better and more meritorious for your soul to pray the Rosary and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.

Exactly

And all the catholic mystics experienced, the more Jesus or Mary appeared, the more satan appeared pretending to be Jesus or Mary

That’s why the authority of Jesus in a holy spiritual director priest must decide is it from God, satan, or illusion.

St Theresa Avila had a few priests tell her she was mad, or that it was satan appearing, she found that Jesuits priests were able to tell her exactly if it was from the Holy Spirit or not, because Jesuits are experienced in discernment (they must practice Ignatian way of discernment each day and train in this)

The mystic is forbidden to believe in it otherwise.

Just to make things clear –

There’s nothing wrong with having a devotion to St. Raphael the Archangel. Folks here are just trying to direct you to be careful in your sources of information.

The best information about St. Raphael is in the Bible.

Read the Book of Tobit (also sometimes called the Book of Tobias), and enjoy!

As you will see, St. Raphael does help us with his prayers, and God sends him to do works of healing, rescuing, and guidance in times of confusion.

Yes. a person who in good faith is asking an angel (any guardian or otherwise) is simply asking for intercessory prayer. I 'm glad that Saint Rafael helped you in your needs.
But as Mintaka says…choose your sources wisely. The pray that you are praying is lovely.
God bless you! :angel1:

Demons can easily affect you on a physical level to the point of either making you ill or making you healthy, they can fill you with horrible and frightening emotions, or they can make you feel euphoric. All angels, whether holy or fallen, can affect physical matter if God permits it.

That’s reason number one as to why we ignore our feelings in the spiritual life: emotions can be easily manipulated by the demonic, and they will be more than willing to provide “experiences” to those who are looking for them.

Demons also are well-known to disguise themselves as angels of light, and initially might be more than willing to whisper sweet things in your ear. Not so for ever.

Your experiences absolutely, positively must be submitted to a spiritual director. Frankly, I would recommend a traditionalist Priest, and if one cannot be found, I would simply urge you to ignore these phenomena entirely. If it is from God, He will get out of you what He wants any way. If it is demonic, you will not be exposing yourself to incredibly serious spiritual dangers.

Agreed.

St. John of the Cross also recommended that such phenomena are simply best ignored. The potential for being deceived is enormous.

Even if we get consolations during prayer, they should simply be used as a sort of motivation to keep doing what we’re doing, and should be ignored as much as possible beyond that.

Again, feelings should not be used as a rule of faith, and they should not be used as a gauge of our spiritual life. Many, many, many souls, IMO, end up in hell because their emotions have been led all over the map throughout their lives.

I read before that the saints even advised the lay faithful not to seek mystical experiences and to simply ignore them.

Doctor of the Church St. John of the Cross explains that if you believe you have had an experience of God in some way, then at that same time your soul would have benefitted from that experience, and you don’t have to dwell on it.

Just keep on going and gently strive to live in the Presence of the Lord.

If you feel the need to talk about it then do so to a priest who can truly help with these experiences.

advancedchristianity.com/

The above site has a lot of spiritual direction from a Carmelite priest, Father Venard Poslusney. These conferences are in the form of MP3s and are about 45 minutes each. Much wisdom and direction can be found there.

Peace,

Dorothy PS…You are correct, we should not seek these experiences.
