Do Catholics still commune in one kind of the sacrament only? If so why. This I remember from growing up as a child and watching. This as a adult never made sens to me. When we are comanded to eat and drink his body and blood. I apologize if I am mistaken. I am new and starting to explore the Catholic faith.
 
Do you mean, that we take commune only in one form, either the Host, or the Blood of Christ? We believe that the Eucharist and the Cup of Blood each contain the entire Christ, so whether you take just the Eucharist, or just the Cup of Blood you receive all of Christ.

Yes. I cas see the philosophy behind the one is both. But is that the standard practice or do most communicants partake of both Body and Cup or just one. In the LCMS tradition we take bolth as the true presense (not a symbole).

In the Ordinary Form, it is possible, but not mandatory, to receive in both forms. Some people will receive in both forms, most will receive just the Host, and a small minority will receive only from the cup (most of these people are celiacs, who cannot receive the Host).

Catholics of the Byzantine tradition always receive under both kinds.
 
I am not a Latin Catholic, and I have been to many Latin Catholic churches. I have never been to one that has NOT offered the cup at communion. I have been to some chapels where the cup is not offered. I have also been to HUUUGE processions where the cup was not offered, but probably more out of practical considerations than anything else.

There were valid reasons for the cup being generally witheld from the laity way back when. Although the same arguments exist today, they aren’t as strong, and the trend has been towards communion under both species. Currently most Ordinary Form Masses offer both, while the Extraordinary Form still reserves reception of the Precious Blood to the Priest alone.

Of course, in the Byzantine and other Eastern Rites, intinction has usually or always (IIRC) been the method of communion.

So, we Catholics are a mixed bag! 👍
 
Part of the reason that both Species are not always offered is two fold. First, the mass requires that only the Priest receive in both forms. Second, there was a heresy several centuries ago that taught that if you did not receive both, you were in a state of sin. Now, there are times that one or the other runs out during mass. How can those who were in the back of the line be considered in a state of sin? The Church tried to stamp that mentality out, finally having to restrict communion to one form only to prove a point. Once it was gone, the restriction was ended.

The priest always communes under both species, and always has.

The congregation might commune with only the Host or with the Body and Blood depending upon the circumstance. The current norm is have both the Body and Blood available, but no one is required to commune under both.

Remember, Christ is present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity under **each **species.

Personally, I almost always receive just the Host. I very rarely drink in social settings and have something of an aversion to the taste of alcohol. I also have a - phobia is too strong a word - but let’s say discomfort about drinking from a cup that is being shared by a hundred or so people, especially during cold and flu season.
