Is it a mortal sin if, during mass, someone remembers a sin they committed that they were unsure of was mortal or venial but recieves communion anyway?

Is it a mortal sin if you recieve communion while pretty sure that you are in a state of mortal sin, but later find out that the sin you thought was mortal was actually venial?

I wont have the opportunity to talk to a priest for a while.

It might be best if you take this question to a wise and holy priest rather than an Internet forum.

I agree with @semper_catholicus
I’m just chiming in to point out a terminology issue: we receive communion; we don’t take. I’m not just splitting hairs, either - it is actually forbidden to self-communicate (take instead of having the Eucharist handed to you).

Thanks for letting me know!-I’ve changed it. I had no idea it was wrong to say that!

Happens often, and I meant no chastisement; I just figure if you’re here to learn, we may as well all contribute to the teaching.

This is really REALLY not helpful to someone suffering from scrupulosity.

@goout Good point. Mea culpa. I hadn’t considered that angle of the OP’s situation.
