Communion at saturday vigil and then on sunday

I know it’s ok to receive communion in one day if the second time is at mass, right?
And a communion service does not count as mass?

But what if I go to a mass for Saturday vigil, and on Sunday morning to a communion service. Can I receive communion there?

In other words, does the Saturday Vigil already count as a mass on Sunday?

Yes the Saturday Vigil mass counts toward one’s obligation to attend mass on Sunday (I regularly attend mass on Saturday evening). You can go again Sunday morning to a mass (one can receive communion twice in the same day if the two masses are different, ex. a wedding and Sat Vigil mass)

Yes Saturday Vigial counts as a Sunday Mass obligation.

You can always receive Holy Communion two times a day as long as the second time is during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

My question in this post is…why would you attend a Communion Service on Sunday when a Mass was available. I would say NO it is not OK to receive Holy Communion in this instance because I cannot think of any instance in the US that would be having a Communion Service on Sunday in the place of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Now if you can offer an legitimate reason why a parish would fall under the USCCB’s guidelines for offering a Communion Service on a Sunday…and after attending the Vigil you would choose to attend that service…that may be a different reason.

Given the senario in the particular post…I see no reason to receive Holy Communion during the Communion Service on Sunday…and I question the reason for holding the Communion Service on Sunday according to the USCCB’s guidelines.

Right. Day is defined as midnight to midnight in this instance.

My question in this post is…why would you attend a Communion Service on Sunday when a Mass was available.

I am in Switzerland.
Sometimes in my hometown church there isn’t a priest available, and they hold a communion service.
Then I usually go to a mass somewhere else.
I have often been going to a specific mass somewhere else on Saturday evening anyway because I am near there during that time.

This morning I wanted to go to the communion service in my hometown too because I wanted to talk to the person who holds it, also wanted to tell him I am going away for a bit etc. Would have been nice to attend the service too maybe.

As it turns out I got a bit of a cold and slept very long this morning and decided to just go there after the service and talk to him.

YES, Saturday vigil counts as a Sunday mass. In the church year, anything after 4:00pm is considered the next day.
You must have a shortage of priests if you have a Communion Service on Sunday…well, the answer is YES, you can stlll go to Communion

Sorry, that’s wrong. The Church has put no such restriction on receiving a second time in one day.

The rule is that one can receive twice in one day as long as the second time is at a Mass at which one has participated. It matters not in what circumstance you received the first time: You can attend 2 Sunday Masses back to back and receive at both; you can receive in a Communion service (say at the bedside of a sick person) and then go to Mass and receive again; you can attend the Mass of the day and return for a Funeral or Nuptial Mass and receive again.

What you may NOT do is receive at Mass and THEN receive at a Communion service in the same day (midnight to midnight).

It is my understanding that it is to avoid the abuse where some believed that the more hosts they received the more blessing they got, i.e. to make folks focus on the quality of their reception rather than the quantity. On the other hand, while the mass is of immeasurable value whether or not one receives, many, including me, feel it incomplete if they don’t receive. They wanted to accommodate us also.

The older rule was that one might receive at more than one mass if it was an unusual occasion, probably to accommodate weddings and funerals. However, a priest once told us that it is an unusual occasion anytime you get a Catholic into the church more than once the same day.
