Communion Bread wafers

I am sure there are multiple ones, but I do not know which. Google the GIRM or Rubrix for the Catholic Church. That may help. I am sure that the Sacramental part of this board will, as might ask a apologist and the catholic.com site.

Long and short, the bread is to be as close to passover bread as it can. The wine must be grape wine. That is what Jesus used.

We’ve always used white wine. I don’t care if it was green wine, it doesn’t matter once it turns into the Blood of Christ.

Grape wine comes in white or red (or rosee, I guess ).
If you could get green wine from a grape, it would be valid matter. If it’s not from a grape, it can’t become the Precious Blood.

Those Protestants that don’t use a host use all kinds of things. At a non-denom I once attended, they used saltine crackers and grape juice. Yet, one must understand that these groups see the Lord’s supper as only a symbolic remembrance so they would not be as stringent in the choice of matter. Lutherans, who believe in the Real Presence, use hosts similar to ours.

The Lutheran chaplain we had at the Army hospital usually “borrowed” hosts from the Catholic supply cabinet (NOT the tabernacle). They were baked in a German convent.
As for wine, a priest once told me that white wine was used because a spill would be less obvious on the altar cloth, but that either was okay.

That’s right. Any wine made from grapes with the standard 12% alcohol content is valid matter. The sacramental wine for our parish is a very nice locally-made blush wine, sort of pink in color. Of course, here in California we have the best wines in the world.

I’d be a bit concerned if a Priest was trying to consecrate green wine. Course it wouldn’t be the first time I was concerned about stuff a Priest did.

The wine need to be made from grapes, I guess the color is not important.

As for what protestants use, it varies by denomination.

I was feeling overly defensive. Im sorry, it should not have been directed at you or priests in general. I can say the same about Protestant pastors and others as well, lots and lots of them do lots of things I disagree with. Maybe Im just generally disagreeable.

Really now though, green? I think there are real reasons for what is used in the Holy Communion and changing it to green would not be cool.

Only on St. Patrick’s day, along with the green beer. The green color doesn’t affect the taste.
